Happy Hump-Day!

Once again, I returned from another grocery store that advertised having Key Lime Pie ice cream, empty handed. Damn, this is like hunting Sasquatch.

What bugs me most is that both grocery stores not only said they had it but also put a picture of a container of it in their adds.

Since I picked up a few other items on this wild goose chase while I was there, there will be no normal grocery shopping today.

So I hope to head down to the basement this morning for a bit of exercise and then head outside for a little weeding. The sunshine and around 80 degree temperatures should continue till Sunday.

Good morning. Got a good night's sleep.

Yesterday I booked excursions for Juneau, Mendenhall Glacier, Salmon Hatchery and Tram. And Skagway, Liarsville Gold Rush Camp and lunch. So now have excursions for 3 of the stops. The other day I booked Tuscan Grille for dinner the night we are cruising Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier. And we are booked for two of the extra restaurants, both for days we are cruising.

No real plans for today.

All have a great day.

Nancy, I'm sure you will enjoy your time in Juneau. Does the Mendenhall Glacier include a helicopter trip to it, or are you just going out to the viewing area ? I wouldn't recommend the tram if you are talking about the one that takes you to the top of the mountain which overlooks the port. Only because we found that the price was exactly the same if you waited to book it on site and that way, you could see if the weather was good enough to enjoy the view from the top.
Cribbage went very well last night. Several of the players we knew from past years but our opponents last night were new and were pleasant company and good competitors. We won three of the five games (one of them was a skunk), so we got 7 points and they took 4 points. The league will run for 16 weeks and will conclude on August 30th. The games are held in the lounge of a bowling league and the new owners have done a fantastic job of renovating the place and making it much brighter and cheerful. They also offer great pizza and other snacks and beverages, so it is a nice night out.
Off to get our second booster shots in about an hour.

Good morning! Unlike Nancy, I had a terrible night's sleep. Seems like the home health nurse that was here yesterday took a look at the 2 sores I have on my right leg. Due to the poor circulation, they are not healing and one is "weeping". So he went ahead and put medication on them and then used a pressure bandage to wrap them. I complained for the rest of the day about how much my leg hurt, unless I had the leg down. Same thing was happening when we went to bed last night. I ended up sitting on my side of the bed all night without sleeping! When I get up this morning I took one look at the leg and woke Bert. The dressing the nurse had put on was too tight and my leg was all swollen! Bert redressed the leg and the swelling is going down already but it still hurts like hell. I'm keeping the leg elevated and that helps to make it more painful, but there's nothing I can do about that. The nurse called my primary while he was here to request a prescription for an antibiotic, but so far one has not been sent. As Kathie always says - It's always something.

Dave - Sorry that once again you were on a wild goose chase after the elusive key lime pie ice cream. Better luck next time. Have fun weeding!

Nancy - I agree with Bill that you are going to love Juneau. Among other sites, we went to a botanical garden that did the neatest thing. When a tree died, they cut off the top and then carefull took the rest of the tree out of the ground, cleaned off the roots and replanted it, but put the trunk part in the ground. On the roots they hung hanging baskets of flowers! It was so cool to see these all over the gardens.

Bill - Great start to your Cribbage season. Glad you met a nice couple to play with. Have the winds died down yet up by you?

Kathy - Art sure is being ambitious with getting the painting done. I guess he wants no excuses to keep him from biking whenever he can go.

Our salmon dinner last night was delicious and boy did they ever eat it up! I thought it would be enough for us all to have leftovers tonight. That's not going to happen. There might be enough salmon left for 2 people. We do have enough fettuccine though, so I'll have to maybe make some chicken to go with it.

Time to get off here and head for my lounge chair. That's a better place to put my leg up than up on a kitchen chair. I'll try to stop back later, if I don't fall asleep that is. Be good, everyone, and happy hump day!

Good afternoon.
Another warm, 75F, day here. It was supposed to be sunny too but so far it’s not.
We managed to get in 90 minutes of pickleball before we walked the pups. There was a nice breeze off the river this morning. Lots of ship traffic heading to and from Lake Erie. Lu-Ann is off to Caffeine and Co with a friend for lunch. I made the annual call to Ma Bell to see what offers they have that will keep our internet rate “reasonable”. Needless to say we weren’t even close so I will call back on a different day and at a different time in the hope that I get somebody appreciates the I may be older but I can still count!
Good on you for getting the excursions booked Nancy. We really enjoyed the helicopter flight to the glacier. Odd feeling as they drop you off and then depart with a previous group!
Art sure is working hard to get his ”Atta Boy” badge for completing honey do tasks Kathie. You are spot on about the cost of good paint going through the roof!
I did salmon with a very light Korean BBQ glaze for dinner Pat. It was pretty good. We won’t get the frozen individual filets from Costco again though. They seemed to lack flavour. Glad they’re gone. PLEASE take care of that leg! It seems to be giving you more than your fair share of trouble.
Unless you mention cribbage Bill, I seldom hear about it any more. Lu-Ann and I used to play but the the folks we played with didn’t move with us. Another “cozy mystery” series we enjoy is “Death in Paradise”. It airs on PBS, Detroit. We stream it on BritBox which has lots of good programs.

When Should You Consider Treatment with a Wound Care Specialist?

Not every wound needs specialist treatment. In most cases, a simple wound that results from an injury can be treated by a primary healthcare provider. More serious wounds may require treatment in the hospital, followed by recovery at home. And, of course, if you see any signs that the wound is infected, such as redness, increased pain, a bad smell, fever, or swelling, you should call your doctor immediately.

However, certain kinds of wounds are more likely to need specialist treatment. For instance, complex wounds such as vascular ulcers, diabetic ulcers, radiation wounds, various types of traumatic injury, and some post-operative wounds may benefit from treatment in a wound care center.

There are also health conditions that may make it harder for your wound to heal. These include:

  • Diabetes
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Vascular disease
  • Incontinence
  • Severe obesity
  • Renal failure
  • Nerve damage
Certain lifestyle issues may also prevent wound healing. For instance, a poor diet, excessive alcohol intake, smoking, and being inactive may also impede your recovery from a wound.

In general, if your wound has not started to heal after 2 weeks, or has not healed completely within 6 weeks, then you should consider visiting a wound care specialist.

Think MRSA - SEPSIS. Take care please.

Good afternoon all!! The bathroom is 99.99% done...Finally!! The fixtures are all set & I went down this morning to put a new screen on her bathroom window & put the trim back on...I also hung her mirror back up & tried to hang the towel rods...I put the 1st towel ring up next to the sink no problem...the longer towel rod for bath towels I could not get the one bracket to tighten...turns out that somehow when I took it off to paint I lost the little set screw that tightens it up... so my friend "google" showed me that Home depot sold Delta faucet handle set screws for around $3....since Barb had a Delta faucet I took the set screw out of the handle to see if it would fit the towel bracket & Volia~ it did...so I put it back in the faucet handle & ordered a set of the screws from HD...they will be here Sat...also Wes hung the shower curtain rod a tad bit to high...so Barb ended up ordering an extra long shower curtain liner so it will be long enough...it all looks very nice, but I will be glad when it is finally all DONE!!!

Pat, I think it's about time they turned you over to a wound care specialist...that leg is not getting better and they have dilly-dallied around long enough...you're going to end up with Sepsis if they don't get on the ball soon!

Dave, bummer that yet another mission failed to provide key lime pie ice cream...but isn't it funny how we always manage to find a little something extra we weren't planning to buy?

Nancy, sounds like some nice excursions you have booked...the one & only time I went to Alaska I was lucky enough to sail with our friend Tony & his wife...they took me & my parents on a private tour of Juneau & also took us to Burckhardt gardens in Victoria...my Dad thought it was just the coolest thing ever!

Lee, good luck with Ma Bell....I spent about 45 mins. on the phone the other day with Spectrum...our internet provider...my bill had gone up to $90 for home phone & internet...the nice lady did manage to get it back down to $80...but they had to send me new equipment...so now I have to call & have a tech come out to hook it up for me...she told me it would be a $49 charge & I said that was cheaper than the therapy I would need after trying to do it myself...

Kathie, you really did score some nice discounts on the paint you've bought...I can't believe how expensive paint has gotten....and I'm one who likes to change up my wall color every few years...that's going to have to change now...

Bill, I have a feeling we've seen the last of Gibbs onscreen...I have mixed feelings on the new guy...but the story lines have been half way decent so I will keep watching...for now..

Visit to the eye Dr. went well yesterday...I am now done with the drops...but he told me to use artificial tears for a while to wean the eye off of having drops put in everyday...I don't have to go back again now till Feb. for my annual exam...
Now I'm out of here to find something for dinner...Barb fixed me breakfast this morning...but I missed lunch...so now I'm starving....later all!

Karen I just saw that you AGREE with me about of Mama Wabbit needing to get to a Wound SPECIALIST ... ASAP. My Sister-in-law that passed away in March had Sepsis in her system when she passed away. (Along with other things too.) Nothing to screw around with.

So glad that the Shower/Bathroom project is all but completed. FINALLY. If I was you Karen, I wouldn't answer the phone calls from either of your sisters for a few week! :emoticon 0102 bigsmile:

We had a fantastic dinner tonight.
I got some really fresh Mussels that came from "Canada"! Made a garlic, parsley, white wine sauce with a splash of Tomato paste in it. Had them with a cup each of pasta noodles.
It was like we died and went to heaven.

The painter man was SPOT ON when he told me he'd only need 1 Gallon of paint for the 1st coat. He had about 1/2 cup of paint left when he finished today.

Thursday is a biking day! So he will be back on FRIDAY for the final coat. Amazing how a lighter color opened up the foyer and hallway. :clap002:

We think the yard Rabbit has been helping himself to ART's freshly transplanted wild Violets. He had them in a square plastic box in the veggie garden and was going to add them to his border and the little SOB dug them out of the box chewed them up and left the roots. He could have eaten all the ones still in our neighbors yard, but he had to pick Art's instead. One dumb Rabbit.

It was a SUNNY and 82F day here on our side of the Detroit River. Almost ready to turn on the A/C, but I just can't do it. I turned on the ceiling fan instead.

Got my haircut today and feels good. I think the guy cut off a TAD too much, but it will grow.

"So Dave, how did your wife get a black-eye?
She just wouldn't shut up."

JUST KIDDING!

But one of us fell out of bed and whacked their head into a nightstand beside the bed.

Since this black-eye is going to be around for a while, I told her she needs a more interesting story about it. Like; "You should see the big guy who gave it to me. I walked out of the bar, but they had to carry his a$$ out."

Yes BB, you've been dicking around with this leg for way too long. Time to bring in the pros before something really serious develops. My grandmother didn't look so good once they had to whack off one of her legs. She too kept ignoring her poor leg circulation.

What a neat fix-it for a missing set screw, KC. I just hope I can remember that solution when I need it. (Delta stuff is good. They'll send you parts for free for life, for their products.)

Still looking for, and staring at your picture, K2.

It's funny that we too have viewed a glacier from the air off of Alaska. It wasn't planned that way, but it was the one time we missed a ship's sailing because air traffic was halted in Seattle because of weather. So after the ship sailed we were being flown by RCCL to meet up with it in Juneau. And by coincidence we flew over our ship as it was going near a glacier. That was cool.

Another warm and sunny day for us today. YEA!

I seem to remember Kathi doing this once before?? YES/NO?? Hope she feels better. If STEAK was so darn expensive she could try slapping one of those on her eye.

My dear daughter did a really cute thing for their 26th Anniv yesterday. She was at the POTATO CHIP factory and since she runs the machine that fills and seals the Chip Bags, she put a "Anniversary Card" inside a bag and after it sealed she took it off the line! She gave the chip bag to Mark and he emptied it on the kitchen counter as instructed and kept saying that the KEYS to his new car were inside. He loved the surprise card he found.
Then they went to a really quaint Italian Restaurant in the middle of their quaint town to have dinner. She said it was absolutely delicious. When it came to pay the bill, the waiter said it was all taken care of by a person named ASHLEY! They both cried over how thoughtful Ash was by doing that. My little granddaughter is grown up now and knows the right thing to do! How nice.

Okay, Art is on a Painter's Day Break! He deserves it after all the paint he did yesterday. Up and down and moving that ladder a hundred times. What a guy.

I get to go try the
Mammogram routine again in a few hours! Today is THURSDAY... right??

You all have a good day. I see that it will be warm in Florida, so get out and enjoy the heat down there.
BILL: Looks like you might still be in the 60's. I bet tomorrow you'll get this warm weather we're having right now. It's even in the HIGH 85's in Upper Michigan. And that's unusual for this time of the year.

Later gang.

Interesting article on the Detroit News this morning. A factory is recalling bags of potato chips after a customer complained that there was a greeting card in the bag! The company is also being sued for suggesting that their bags of chips contained keys for a brand new car.
ALWAYS SOMETHING! , eh Kathie!
In other news...
Good "fix" on the towel bar Karen! I always hate when a fiddly little part goes missing and it can grind a project to a halt! The CSR at Bell "couldn't" tell me what next week's promotions may be for internet. He did offer an ongoing credit of $35 to replace the $20 one we have. He seemed to think that I couldn't count because that still leaves a $20 gap to the existing multi service "promotions". I'm thinking that the "advantages" and perks of the land line are soon to be a thing of the past here.
OUCH! Poor Kathi taking an unplanned tumble out of bed in the night Dave. Send her in to the grocery looking for the Key Lime ice cream. She can play the sympathy card and then the shopkeeper that she needs it for her eye!
Temps here in "The Banana Belt" are expected to reach and feel like 78F today Kathie. A perfect day for Art to be on the bike what with the low humidity and all. They said that it's been 30 years since this area was so late getting the temperatures we are seeing. From jackets last week to T-shirts this week.
Yep, like I said yesterday and the others seem to agree Pat, please keep on top of that leg. I do hope that a prescription was forthcoming AND that you had a good night's rest!
A funny story about our helicopter trip to the glacier was the young girl's reaction at the check in area. She said that we had the BEST pilot that Temsco Helicopters had. Another girl looked over and said "She means the cutest. Your pilot is a good pilot but (pointing to one of the other pilots) he's the best."
I got thinking Bill. Blacklist was never the same after Mr. Kaplan "disappeared". Or did she?
I suppose I should get my butt in gear. The van needs gas, the BBQ propane tank needs refilling, I need to get in my exercise and I have a haircut scheduled for 2:00.

Good afternoon. Woke at 1 am and could not get back to sleep so I came out to the living room and went thru emails. Found an excursion for Ketchikan that sounds real good, so told Bruce about it and he said to book it, so i just did. I went back to bed at 4:30 and ended up sleeping until 9:30.

Have been to Publix for a couple of things I need for beef stew, so will make it in a bit for dinner.

Yesterday Bruce called and had me go to Palm City so we could collect an outdoor table and chairs for Jennifer. And because we did not realize that the legs can come off the table we had to put one chair in his van. Because of the time we decided to go to the local Chinese restaurant for dinner and when we got there they said they are only doing take out so we went next door to the seafood restaurant, which was good but I would not brag about it.

Our tour to the glacier in Juneau does not include a helicopter. The cost is prohibitive, least expensive is $350 pp and we want to do more excursions and a few years ago I did a helicopter ride and for me it was not fun.

My SIL funeral is set for Sunday. So yesterday I made a donation to the American Diabetes Assoc in her name with a card to be sent to our niece. And also ordered a plant to be delivered to the funeral home, then Becky can take the plant home and plant it in the yard. Seeing it will help with her son remember his Grandma.

All have a great day.

Our CRAZY backyard temperature gauge on the Air Conditioner that is connected to the INSIDE thermometer is reading 98F. Ha Ha. It happens because the gauge faces the WEST and is reflected off the medal on the cover of the A/C unit. Always makes me laugh.
But, in it's defense it is 90F right now in our area and yard. Mother nature needs to learn how to dish out the nice Spring Temps a little more gradually. :emoticon 0138 thinking:

Amazingly it is comfortable inside the house! THANK GOODNESS. I just DO NOT want to turn on the A/C yet.

Nancy: I think you made good choices on what you are sending Becky and your donation to the ADA Assoc.

Lee: Don't you just love when the phone/cable, etc companies give you the run-around and expect you to just bow down and thank them for their LESS than generous savings. I find calling later in the week and day works better for deals for me. Sometimes at night is good if the lines are still open.
We only keep a LAND-LINE number because of the Alarm System.

Dinner is about to be served. If we had our AWNING and CHAIRS/TABLES up on the deck we could easily eat outside tonight. I need to make an appointment with Jill and her gang to come over and help put that awning up.

Later gang. Enjoy he evening.

I think Pat is tired of all of us picking on her about her health issues and stayed away today. Remember that if we DIDN'T CARE we wouldn't pick on you. Actually, not picking on you, just watching out for you.

I still can't get my mind wrapped around the fact that a million people in the U.S. have died from Covid. And that's just, so far.

I try to picture that many people in a large crowd, but just can't do it. Monster sized stadiums don't come even close.

Stay cautious Bunnies.

We had a fella from Lowes here yesterday to give us an estimate to replace a small, white picket fence along one side of the drive. To make it vinyl this time. The one there now is wood and I put it in 25 years ago. I think paint is the only thing still holding it together. On that side of the drive there is an 8 inch drop to the ground to the lawn. And seeing the fence there keeps you from driving off the drive.

Anyway, the young fella that gave us the estimate has been fully vaccinated and boosted. BUT one of his young children brought home from school a Covid variant that infected the whole family. (As we all know, kids are little germ factories.) He was the only one who got really sick. But not enough to put him in the hospital.

Yes K2, Kathi has fallen out of bed 3 times in the past year. Good thing we have thickly padded carpet in the bedroom.

Dealing with phone or other utility companies is always a pain, Lee.

Yippee, sunny and 80 again today. No great plans.

Good morning. Slept pretty good last night.

The beef stew came out real good, and as usual there is a bunch left over.

With picking up the chairs and helping with the table the other day my hands are back to hurting so am using the gel and taking the pills, had been off both for about 4 or 5 days. Oh well at least they will get better in a few days.

The beef stew came out real good and of course there are leftovers.

Hope Pat is okay since she has not posted in a couple of days.

All have a great day.
