Return of the Cruising Bunny's....

Good morning, gang! And that's as far as I got yesterday!!

Bert wanted to head for Ocala right away, so off we went. Normally it takes us 2 hours to get to Laurie's house. Yesterday it took us over 3 hours! We hit bumper to bumper traffic as soon as we merged onto I-75. Seem like some miles up, from which there were no exits to get off, there was a chain reaction crash involving a large RV, a truck pulling a closed utility trailer and a smaller RV. Everyone had to go into 1 lane. Once beyond that point traffic flowed easily, however, it was all blocked up southbound due to "lookie loos" checking out that accident. But before that there was a big rig broken down in the center lane backing up even more traffic. We made up our minds right then and there, we would not be taking I-75 home! Only stayed at Laurie's house long enough for a bathroom break and headed back out for home.

We took the slow going route home via 441/SR27 which goes through all the cities from Ocala or south until we could hook up with the turnpike. I waved to you, KC, as we passed your area! As we were heading closer to home, they had a sign alerting drivers that all lanes were closed before 192. Normally we would get off the exit before that, but I'm sure it was a nightmare in that area, so we got off in Orlando and came home via more local areas. All I can say about that ride home is that there's way too many traffic lights!! While mileage that way was almost identical with how we went up, it took us 3 hours to come home that way. Needless to say, the whole day was killed. Just about had time to warm up some leftovers before settling in for the Gator game.

Gators lost, but I was real happy with their playing. They pretty well kept Bama in check during that second half and except for a few bad breaks, had a chance to win this one. They did good!!

Boy, did I every just make a dumb move!! Something I had hanging on the sliding door fell and when I went to pick this little thing up, I fell! Landed right on my butt and then flat on my back. Good thing Bert was already up and ready to come out of the bedroom. Took a little while for me to get into a position where between the 2 of us, I was able to get up. Note to self: From now on, no matter what is on the floor, don't try to pick it up!

Glad you gals all made it to church this morning, either virtually or for real. I think we're going to need all those prayers to stay safe from the virus and from the maniacs that are out driving cars this week and not paying attention or doing really stupid things. Talk about accidents waiting to happen!!

KC - Nice that you're able to help Wendy with the boarding pass. Is it your job to bring her to the airport too?
It's been a long while since we went further than Leesburg on the turnpike. OMG! Has the Villages expanded! Couldn't believe how much it's grown and the idea that they now have a sign across the turnpike identifying what they are!
And for the record, YES, we did have something in the hot chocolate - Bailey's Irish Cream!

Dave - I bet the kids got a charge out of hearing Kathi's voice reading the story. How old are those kids now?

Lee - So how is self confinement in Canada going these days? Decided to start any new projects which staying home?

San - How's things out your wat? No more earthquakes?

K2 - We'll wait until all the Christmas stuff is put away before we decide to tackle any puzzles. Might have to get some from Gary. He must have at least 50 puzzles in a closet, some of which have never been done. His last wife's family used to give him puzzles all year long.

Guess I should get to work around here seeing as how I lost all of yesterday. I need to start baking big time!! So on that note, I will back out of here for now. Have a wonderful day, everyone, and stay safe no matter what you're up to today! :)
 
Good Morning to all,

Let me wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a safe, healthy and happy 2021. I would say it would have to be better than 2020, but I don't want to tempt the fates.

Bill is doing very well;, as is Taylor. We talked with her yesterday and she can finally talk. Still eating very soft foods, and will have to for another week or so . Saw her surgeon on Friday and she said Taylor was doing just fine. She at least says she is feeling much better, so I think she is on the road to recovery. She doesn't go back to school until February, so I'm hoping she can come and visit us in Florida. Much better to recuperate in the sun. Bill is finally looking much better and getting around better.

My daughter and I are driving to Florida and Bill will join us on Jan 2. He is coming by plane. I don't think sitting for three or four days would be great for him, and Lisa offered to drive with me. I am looking forward to spending the time with her, as we rarely get to see one another on a one to one basis. She works from home, Jaclyn is in middle school, but remotely 3 days a week, Juliana is taking courses at a local college, and Evan has just returned from his first semester at U Maine. I think both Juliana and Evan are going to do local colleges instead of U Maine, as they are still planning on doing school remotely, so she will have all 3 home. Her husband comes home for lunch, so her house is always busy, sometimes even crazy!

San, I understand about the radiation and it causing you to lose weight. Not a good way to lose, though. At least that is behind you, so I am sure you are glad to say goodbye to 2020 as are we. And thanks to Benjamin for the lesson in owl puke. Better him than me looking at that stuff!

BB, Try some Bailey's white chocolate liquor in that hot chocolate. It's yummy, but addictive. Better than drugs!

K2 and Karen, thanks for including us in your prayers. God know we all need them.

K2, those cookies look delicious. Must have taken quite a bit of time and effort. I usually bake cookies for the neighbors at Christmas, but they are all so afraid of Covid that I just bought boxes of candy (sealed). I can't complain about them being paranoid, we have most of our groceries delivered each week. I actually find I spend less money, because there are no impulse purchases However, I do go to the supermarket usually on Monday, to pick up cold cuts and other small things. In and out in about 30 minutes.

Karen, I hope they find the papers you need. The man we are renting from sent us the keys to the condo last week with a tracking number. They were supposed to be delivered yesterday, but I got a text this morning telling me they were in the local post office and would be delivered on Monday. I sure hope so. Did you get a tracking number so you could follow them, or was it just regular mail?

I do need to change our address to FL, and I hope it goes smoother than other years. It usually takes about 2 weeks for us to get mail at the new address, and for the past few years someone has stolen our Consumer Reports that has the car issue. When I called CR about it, they told me that was the most stolen issue of the year. Iff you can afford a car, you can afford a magazine, People! One year they were able to send me another (in a plain wrapper, LOL_ but other years they had no extra issues.

Lee, sorry about your sore butt. Do you know where you stand in line to get the Covid vaccine I would think LuAnn would be pretty much a th top after the health care workers and nursing home folks. I suspect we will have to wait until we get back to Massachusetts to get ours. I just can't see FL giving the shots to snowbirds, but who knows?

Dave, I gave our youngest granddaughter a book that I recorded, and I know she loved it. My daughter said she read it every night and sometimes she would face time me and we would read it together. I hope she saves it for her kids (someday) as she us will e 13 in January and she is over that!

Well, that's what has gone on in our house this week. In addition to all the above we had about a foot of snow on Thursday. Luckily, we live in a condo, so the garage and parking areas were plowed out and they shoveled our porch and stairs right up to our front door. One of my neighbors cleaned off my car, so I didn't have to go out in it. There was a lot of ice under the snow, and it got so cold, but most of the ice melted on Saturday, so things are looking better. I am hoping no snow for our trip south.

Good to know your plans are worked out for the FL trip. And nice that Mr BILL is feeling better. Just stay OFF of the STAIRS and the parking lot. You don't need to slip on the left-over ice or snow.

I'm taking a break from WRAPPING gifts. Almost done. The dining room table is full of bags, tissue, ribbon, tags, tape, etc, etc. Seems to be going too smoothly. Well, it was until I tipped over my coffee cup that had a travel lid on it. Not too much got out and none got on the carpet. Whew!!

BB: Bummer on all that traffic yesterday to just use the bathroom and have to get back on the road. But better safe than sorry.

Virtual church was good. Not too many people in the actual church today when they moved the camera around.
The church priest and church board has CANCELLED Serbian Christmas EVE services and CHRISTMAS DAY. It will only be the priest and his 2 helper people. Serbian Christmas Eve and DAY are one of the busiest holidays and attendance is in the HUNDREDS. They just can't take a chance and have the church open to parishioners. It just wouldn't be safe. And if you open the Parking Lot Gates their would be no way to control getting them to turn around and drive back out. It has been in the Church e-mail bulletin for a couple of weeks, but most of the people are the 2 time a year folks and they don't even get the emails.
So they said it will just be safer to have the gates closed from the street and the usual guards there to make sure nobody gets out of their car and slides the gates open.
This is like the FIRST TIME in the HISTORY of our CHURCH that the parishioners will not be allowed into the church on Serbian Christmas EVE and DAY. WOW.....we're making history. Not that it's good history.

Okay, I need to get back to the wrapping. I'm on a roll. I think PIZZA will be our choice of dinner tonight. Or Soup & Grilled Cheese sandwiches. It'll be a toss up.

LEE: What are you up to across that Detroit River today? Sure is MILD outside. Are you allowed to go to the park and walk the dogs or not? How are the sidewalks around your house and neighborhood. Still too risky to take the pups out on them??

Lordy I don’t know where the days go!
To answer a couple of the questions we both felt poorly after the shingles shots. A little nausea and achy on Friday. I had no reaction last year but they say the first Shigrex shot is tougher on your system than the old shot. We took it easy all day as we had a TSO concert to attend Friday night. We decided in advance that we were going to enjoy the concert and not wear masks at all. That’s because it was a virtual live concert which we enjoyed in the comfort of our own home.
My gosh Pat, that’s a long drive to use the washroom. You should have just gone to Cracker Barrel if you didn’t want to go at home. Their bathrooms are always pretty clean. ;)
It’s damp here today as well Kathie. It seemed colder along the water this morning than usual. All of our snow is gone. I didn’t even shovel it. Our “lockdown” is a farce! Mom and Pop shops are closed but big box stores are open. ARGH!! A shame about your Christmas Eve service. But so responsible on the part of your priest and board of directors.
Tony, thanks to Benjamin I too learned something new. We have a family of owls living high up a tree in Navy Yard Park. If you call them, they will call back.
Good news about Bill and Taylor Rita. Thanks for the update! We have no idea where we fit in to the vaccine chain. Rest assured that we will get it when it’s our turn once all of the essential service folks and senior seniors have theirs.
That video was pretty funny Karen. I should try that myself! Literally, my self. No dogs. Just me, an ugly sweater and a can of whipped cream. (Yes Dave, I’ll wear pants too) Now the race is on to see if USPS or UPS delivers the papers to Ohio first.
I wanted to look for one of those books at the Hallmark store Dave but, well, it’s closed. I wonder if Granny’s voice in the book is causing more amazement and wonder than what’s inside the big box.
Our street, no doubt like all of yours, is bustling with courier trucks today. As it has been for the past few days.

I am glad that you didn’t break something when you fell on your ass, Pat. Sorry about the super long trip to Lauries house. Frustrating. Trying to leave the Bay Area on a Friday is like that.

K2, too bad that all the festivities and services surrounding your Church are spoiled for you.

Rita, have a safe trip down to Florida with your friend. I don’t blame Bill for flying.

Karen, good job on keeping this thread going yesterday. Sorry we forgot to invite you to our Holiday Party. But we did talk about you.

Dave, do you miss refueling the locomotives during your cold winters? I guess I always thought that locomotives had to go to a fueling station to tank up.
 
Taking a break in the action. Just hope I don't run out of steam and get nothing else done today. I do want to make some chocolate fudge yet and maybe some boozie truffles. If I don't get them done, they will be on tap for tomorrow, for when the dough I made today will be ready.

Gary left just a little while ago. He got his wrapping finished and managed to take a few of the gifts home. There's still piles of stuff in our back bedroom, some of which will go back tomorrow. Bert is going to their house one day this week to help assemble a bike, a desk and a weight bench. These kids are getting some gifts this year in addition to the computers they will be building under Gary's supervision.

Rita - Glad Bill and Taylor are both doing better. Be careful, if you go out of the house. No slips or falls allowed. Where are you spending Christmas? What day are you and Lisa planning to hit the road? Stay safe as you make the trek south with the rest of the snowbirds. LOL

By the way, our trip to Ocala wasn't just to use Laurie's bathroom. That was the fringe benefit, if you can call it such. We brought all the meat, bacon, onions & pickles for the dinner she will cook in 2 crock pots. She's on her own for the veggies!

Lee - I like the way you saw your concert Friday night. That's the best way right now. They canceled our Christmas play at Osceola Arts until August. Next one up will be in February when they do the Odd Couple, if it comes off as planned! Glad your snow is all gone.

K2 - Good idea by your Priest to cancel the Christmas ceremonies. You know too many people would ignore the rules for those special days. Sorry about the oops with the coffee. Glad it didn't get on the rug. In recent years I always wrapped at the dining room table. So glad this year I only had 2 small gifts to wrap. I was able to do them right at the kitchen table.

San - I see you just popped in. So who's making Christmas dinner for your clan? I thought you were limited to a 150 mile radius from home. Isn't McCloud further away than that?

SAN: I doubt very much if anybody would be tracking how many miles over the limit of 150 you would be doing! Unless, your car license plates have some kind of identity that you live in Gilroy! Go for it. I bet you could talk yourself out of a ticket. Are you doing the driving these days?

By the way folks.....the closing of our church for Serbian Christmas Eve and Christmas day is on JANUARY 6th and JANUARY 7th. So it's not this coming week. Still the best idea this Priest and board has come up with so far.

WOW, what a difference a day makes. From Saturday's famine of posts to yesterday's feast. Yes!

Such a joy reading about what you Bunnies are up to, and what you are planning.

Perfect timing for NBC to return to our available channels yesterday, so we could watch the Browns win last night. (Somebody got some money.) Last time the Brownies played at night on NBC, ESPN also showed the game. But not this time, unless you spoke Spanish.

At least one church in our town will have a Christmas Eve service. But according to the sign in front of the church it will be held in their parking lot with people staying in their cars.

I don't miss anything about the job I retired from San. At first I missed all the good people I worked with, but anymore not so much.

ZIP planned for today, for either of us. The old mattress was put out on the driveway last night. Although they said they wanted it out there by 4 AM today, we can only guess as to when it gets picked up. I just can't see any trash truck rolling in a residential area anywhere near that time.

Good morning friends!
I fear that there may be a lynch mob forming in our town. Yesterday there was a car from New York parked in 2 hour parking by the park. A note taped to each window said “We are back again to enjoy Christmas with our family. We are quarantining for 14 days”. With families here being asked to celebrate only with those who live under their roof this privileged a$$hole thinks it’s OK to travel across the border to they can do what many of us shouldn’t and won’t. They must be Canadian or surely they would have been turned back. Still, when families here are foregoing a traditional Christmas with elderly parents, in-laws, kids and cousins it’s wrong. And most of the folks reading the note on the car were, as were we, unhappy to put it mildly. Enough of my Moanday morning rant.
The entire Trans Siberian Orchestra Christmas concert was virtual! “Tickets” were $20 and you could watch the concert live on Friday and again as often as you wanted until mid nite last night. We had initially planned for our friends to be here but nixed that when the restrictions were tightened.
A parking lot church service is a nice idea as well Dave. At least people can get together. Even if it is through their car windows. I’m willing to bet the mattress is there long after 4:00 am. The longer away from the old PO the less I miss the people there as well.
I think if you make the boozy truffles last you should be OK Pat. Of course if you make and taste them first you can blame leaving the fudge until today on the truffles. So which two of us are getting the small gifts you wrapped?
Kathie, I meant to ask if that is still the old tried and true travel mug from when The Bunnies invaded Toledo? I bet Art’s enjoying the milder biking weather!
Tony, we all said that we weren’t going to mention that party. I was just glad to be able to be there virtually. Which, my friend, gives me an idea. Would it be worth trying to set up a Holiday Zoom meeting with everyone?

A week tonight is our rematch Bill. I won the first game but lost my M&M. Hope the odds makers give me a chance to even things up.
I best get my sweetie up. She has set times for her PD meds and if I leave her too long it throws that schedule all to heck.

Good morning, everyone! Time to get all that last minute stuff done for the big day. I also hate to say this, but happy the first day of Winter! Brrrr ....

We've got a bit of running around to do today. Does that surprise you in the least? LOL Need to replenish the wine supply, of course, plus head to Publix for the weekly order that Bert never got to the other day.
Never got to make fudge or the boozie truffles after all yesterday. Bert sort of took over the kitchen counter taking all the meat off our honey baked ham. He diced some of it, as well as sliced a pile for whatever we might want ham for and , of course, he saved the bone with lots of meat on it. I see a pea soup in our future. ;)

Dave - We just got our ABC station back this past week. Guess somebody coughed up the money to make the deal. I'm sure the cable provider didn't get in the Christmas spirit and return the stations at no charge. That would be a Christmas miracle, for sure!!
Smart move for that church to have services in the parking lot. There's a couple of churches down here that were doing the same thing a while ago.

Lee - Sorry to disappoint you, but those 2 small packages I had to wrap were ones Brian shipped here for Gary's gang. One is an escape room game, which they are all into doing and the other is a game about traveling thru Europe, I think. As long as things are still not safe to do or go to, games are perfect.
I don't know how to do a Zoom meeting, plus we're not going to be home, so that won't work for me, unfortunately.

San - I thought McCloud was close to that far away. You've told us often enough how far you have to go to get there. Loved the picture of the young miss sliding along in the snow. Cute video!

K2 - Thanks for reminding us once again as to when the Serbian Christmas Eve & Day are. How many years in a row is it now that you told us? We all get it now!!!! :)

KC - So were you able to download Wendy's boarding pass for her yesterday? I sure hope you were able to figure it all out.

Don't forget to look to the sky tonight to see the Christmas star. Jupiter & Saturn are going to get VERY cozy and will be very bright, like the star the Three Wise Men followed. This is also the shortest daylight day of the year. So the good news is that starting tomorrow the days will get longer each day!

Dave and Lee, most of what I missed when I retired was the same as you, it was fellow employees. Before Covid 19 I used to go to breakfast with two. I seem to remember Kathie saying she met up with a couple on occasion.

I still do the majority of driving. When going to McCloud, Nancy will cover the driving for an hour to give me a break. She thinks the Silverado is way too big for her, but she is happy if we take the Traverse.

Trader Joe’s and a couple of other places to go this afternoon.

SAN: You’re right about me meeting up with about 8 of my former working team mates. This is the first year we didn’t meet up for our Sept or Oct brunch. Miss doing that. I hope we don’t fall off from doing it.
I keep in touch with a couple of them on Facebook. I think I’ll try and message or e-mail a few of them tomorrow. This is what comes of having a ugly Covid around.
Nice to know Nancy helps out with the driving.
I have driven all the way to Florida and back home some years. I love holding that wheel and moving out on the road. AND I ABSOLUTELY HATE THE WAY ART DRIVES. Way too slow! Ha ha

I delivered the last of the baked goods to DOORSTEPS today. I felt like Mrs Claus ringing doorbells and dropping off pkgs. I didn’t even go into my brothers house! Kind of sad knowing I won’t be with my brother and nieces and nephews etc this year. But it’s all for the good when you listen to all the hospitals maxing out on beds lately here in Michigan.

You all be good and stay home as much as you can.

Sounds like K2, Lee, and I just may get a white Christmas. Although it'll get near 50 degrees on Thursday, by the end of the day temperatures will be crashing with rain turning into snow. And only in the teens and twenties on Christmas. A white Christmas would be neat.

Lee; What I don't understand is why these New York would people would ever leave notes on their car's windows.

BB; The way you're always picking up wine, did you ever think of buying a barrel of it? :) With our cloud cover lately it looks like we'll never get to see the "Christmas Star". One newscast said that Jupiter and Saturn haven't been lined up that close since the 16 hundreds.

San; You too waited till the last minute to finish your Christmas shopping?

We're doing our grocery pick-up this morning. Again at the smaller grocery store. Good thing that you can also order your wine and booze too. The first time Kathi put in the order for some, she was told that when picking it up she'd have to show an ID at pick-up. I guess that with just one look at us, they decided that it wasn't necessary.

Pat, that was quite a trip to Ocala the other day...you can just never tell how traffic on 75 is going to be....especially this time of year....sorry about the Gator loss....but you are right...they did fight pretty hard

Kathie, I've double checked my doorstep and no goodies to be found...guess someone snagged them before I got up...

Dave, glad the mattress got picked up as promised....we are having problems with the dumpsters here in the complex...people are dumping in big stuff that doesn't belong in them because they don't want to pay to have the city pick up...

Rita, so glad to hear Bill & Taylor are starting to feel much better....safe travels on your trip south...sounds like it will be a nice Mother/Daughter bonding trip!!

I got Wendy's boarding pass printed out with no problem....I was able to check her in by using her flight number....so I had it done by the time she got here...I fixed us lunch & had a nice visit before she headed home to finish packing...

Got to stay home yesterday & today and just relax....tomorrow will be spent dropping off the ham & Jane's presents at Barb's...getting the oil changed in my truck & a free car wash...then head to Sam's for gas...no way am I going anywhere near the inside of a store till next week at least!

Still no word on the missing paper work or Christmas packages...hopefully the UPS delivery on the paperwork will happen tomorrow as scheduled....the post office is no help at all...according to them the packages are not "lost"...they are delayed....seems to me if you don't know where something is....it's LOST! Might be time to call on St. Anthony for some help!

Now I think it's time for another cup of coffee & maybe read for a bit on the back porch....if I remember correctly weren't you all talking about a book you were reading called Where the Crawdad's Sing? Someone had sent it to Barb from Amazon & she gave it to me...I just finished it yesterday...the ending really caught me by surprise....

KC - Yeah, the ending on that book really surprised me too. Slow to get into the book and had Bill not encouraged me to give it another try, I would never have read it. Really glad that I did.
Bert went into Sam's yesterday and he said that surprisingly, it wasn't that crowded. He said he has seen it much worse.

Dave - I think we're all going to be on a roller coaster with the weather between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. On Thursday it is supposed to get to about 78. Then the rains will come and the temp is supposed to drop down to 38 overnight. That's a 38 degree drop!!! Christmas Day it will be about 50 with temps dropping close to freezing. By KC, it will drop to freezing. Just one more thing adding to this screwed up year.

Lee - We didn't get to see the Christmas star either. Bert went outside a couple of times, but like when he goes to the supermarket, he didn't know what he was looking for nor where to look. He told me he did a 360 scan of the sky and saw nothing. Neighbors posted a beautiful picture of the star, so I know it could be seen, if you know what you are doing. Oh well, better luck next time it comes around!! ;)

K2 - Good for you getting all those goodies delivered to front porches. Our doorbell rang while we were having dinner. It was our doctor friends from down the block delivering a bottle of homemade Irish cream! They have made it before and it really is so good.

What's on tap around here for today, you may ask. Back to baking.:chef: I need to finally get the ice box cookies in the oven, as well as peanut butter cookies. I need to get to both pdq, because we are watching Nathan & Jennifer this evening, as today is M&J's wedding anniversary and they are going to one of those mystery/dinner theaters. I will have to come up with something to make for the kids for dinner also, so you can see how busy I'm going to be today.

Guess it's time to make some coffee to fortify myself for this long busy day. Stay safe, everyone! :)
 
Pat, I went out looking for the Christmas star last night too....I saw a star in the general area they said it would be...but it didn't look all that big or bright so it probably wasn't the right one....oh well...pretty sure I won't be around for the next sighting...

KC: 45F is just all wrong for Florida. I don’t care what month or time of the day it is. Just shouldn’t happen! Brrr.

And about MISSING PACKAGES..... I still haven’t received a pkg that is about 45 mins from our house most likely sitting in the Allen Park postal depot. It’s been there for 7 days according to the TRACKING information. I sent out gift cards to my Godchildren's kids in Chicago 6 days ago and I can’t even get tracking number to work. If they ever get those cards with the gift cards inside it will be a miracle. Never going to send them again. Seems every year it gets worst with deliveries. SURE HOPE YOUR PAPERS GET TO THE LAWYERS OFFICE SOON!

Art went biking this morning and said he was going to stay inside the park to avoid getting his bike all full of mud from the dirt roads he normally rides on. It rained last night and the dirt roads will be horrible. He still isn’t home, so I’m thinking he went out of the park on a paved trail. It is nice outside right now.

Dave: Nice that the mattress got picked up. How do they charge you for the GROCERY PICK UP if I may ask? Is it by the final dollar amount you buy or just a FLAT RATE? I really need to try it one day, although when I go to our Krogers at 6:30 a.m there aren’t very many Shoppers to bump into. Next week there will be a lot less Shoppers I’m sure. I don’t think people will be doing too much New Year Eve purchases.

By the way....a neighbor 3 doors down had a family Christmas Party yesterday. It was on their DRIVEWAY! They all looked bundled up and they had chairs and tables set up and a few wood burning gizmos with a good fire in them. They looked like they were having a good time. The neighbors are as old as we are and I thought it was great that they got together that way.


Out of here for now. I’m not going anywhere the next few days. Safer inside at home.
