Let's Play BALDERDASH!!! (copyrighted game name)

Wow, I guessed wrong and NO ONE picked my bluff? NO POINTS? I am hurt! Good job on your bluff Seamom.

I think the earth has stopped rotating - Tobyn got nothing at all???? Tee-hee-hee : )

barbaralillia:

1. Having difficulty speaking foreign languages

2. Pertaining to strangers

3. Forging and twisting iron to form a decorative fence

4. Strength beyond norm in the female of a species

For reasons to be described later, I'll take #1. Having difficulty speaking foreign languages.

Well, heck, I don't know what to pick now...let's see...maybe I'll go with...well...it is either 2 or 3...which one, which one?? Ok, I'll go with:

# 2. Pertaining to strangers

Aha, so that's the way to do it! If I try to find the correct definition I will end up with Tobyn's and if I try to find Tobyn's I will hit the correct one...

It's a historic day today - no point at all to Tobyn!
I did not think I would ever see that happen!

For barbara... I agree with Tobyn, #1.
The explanation is true, at least regarding the words in this thread!

/Erik

From Funnel: It's a historic day today - no point at all to Tobyn!
I did not think I would ever see that happen!

Nor I, nor I...it is a day for celebration!! :cheer: :cheer: Not that we are counting points or anything.

Oh...this is all way too funny!!!!! Corky, rejoice that Glo-ree-bee gave you a point.......because......................then you gave Tobyn one by voting for strangers and he and Funnel both picked the right answer with speaking foreign languages...LOL~~~ so what do you have to explain to us Tobyny...that you slipped last time but are back to regular form now? hmmmm?

Dapifer:

1. Paper pulp made out of wood shavings

2. A waiter in a palace.

3. In archaic form, a species of tree

4. To dress up, to formalize an outfit

Ok - although I am being whupped by Tobyn  , and I am sure this answer is his, I am picking # 2. A waiter in a palace.

Den is picking # 3. In archaic form, a species of tree

Okay, for barbaralillia . . . Bread told me the meaning of the name Barbara is 'stranger', so I bluffed with "pertaining to strangers". When I saw the list of choices, the only one other than mine that was in that vein was the foriegn language answer, so I picked that. It was a guess, but an educated guess. Now for tonight's . . . .

Dapifer:

1. Paper pulp made out of wood shavings

2. A waiter in a palace.

3. In archaic form, a species of tree

4. To dress up, to formalize an outfit

I decided not to pick my own in hopes others will pick mine . . . . .At least that is what I am going to post . . . hehehehe I'll agree with Corky and guess at #2 A waiter in a palace . . . . .

Yeah! Correct again! :egyptian:

For dapifer I'll guess #1 but I have no clue why.
Maybe because I use to deliver timber from my forest to a nearby paper mill...

Let's see if #1 is Tobyns' or Corkys' clue!

/Erik

Well Corky...good think you followed Tobyn today........he picked the correct answer and also gained a point from Den! Funnel...you gave a point to Corky this time! :)

Now for copoclephily (kawp-o-KLEFF-ill-ee):

1. Someone who purposely steals from the elderly

2. Training of a mafia enforcer

3. The collecting of key rings containing advertising

4. Ancient Egyptian artifacts found while digging the Suez Canal

Happy Family Day in Canada.... Presidents' Day to you in the States!

Give a little, take a little...it's all good.

copoclephily (kawp-o-KLEFF-ill-ee):

1. Someone who purposely steals from the elderly

2. Training of a mafia enforcer

3. The collecting of key rings containing advertising

4. Ancient Egyptian artifacts found while digging the Suez Canal

# 3. The collecting of key rings containing advertising

And a Happy Family Day in Canada to you!!! I've never heard of this holiday, do you all do anything special for it? Is it a National holiday where the banks, schools, post office, etc are closed?

This one is another tough one . . . I asked all in the house here and there is no consensus. So, I am going to take a WAG.

copoclephily (kawp-o-KLEFF-ill-ee):

1. Someone who purposely steals from the elderly

2. Training of a mafia enforcer

3. The collecting of key rings containing advertising

4. Ancient Egyptian artifacts found while digging the Suez Canal

I am going to go with Bread's choice and go with #1 Someone who purposely steals from the elderly . . .

Oh no! Wrong, wrong... :madd: ...but today I gave the point to Corky instead of Tobyn.

Impossible to spell and to pronounce; copoclephily!
I guess... ummm... I... don't want... to give away... a point to... Tobyn or Corky... #1...

/Erik

Family Day is a new holiday in Ontario so I googled it for the explanation and I learned a bit too! From statutoryholiday.com: The Leading Statutory Holidays Site on the Net

Family Day is celebrated on the 3rd Monday of February.
Family Day is not a national statutory holiday, it is only observed in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan, however, two other provinces have holidays in February: In PEI Islander Day (new since 2009) is celebrated on the 2nd Monday in February and in Manitoba the 3rd Monday in February is the Louis Riel Day holiday.
Since this is not a federally established holiday all federal workers work on Family day including post office employees and public servants.
Family Day was originally created to give people time to spend with their families but it also provides a day off between New Years Day and Good Friday as they are approximately three months apart.....

As for us, we celebrated yesterday but going to have dinner out with the Seagrandparents. We are all just vegging at home today, doing our own things.

Sounds like a nice holiday. We should have one here in the States. It is a long haul between New Years and Good Friday.

I'm headed out today at 8:45 AM (cst) and won't check the board again until this evening. Happy Day to Seamom and to all my Balderdash buddies!! :sunny:

I vote for #1

Seamom -- very interesting about Canadian holidays

If we have any more holidays off here in the states the kids will never become educated. With time off for teacher/parent conferences, regular holidays (at least once a month), snow days, inservice days, spring break, fall break, Christmas, Easter -- kids are more out of school than in!!!

I know I have probably ruffled some feathers. I have 9 in my family who are in the teaching profession and I used to teach but honestly, the schools are more out than in. Be honest.

Tobyn must be biting at the bit waiting to see how many points he gained in this game!! :) Corky actually picked the right answer with keyrings PLUS a point each from Tobyn and Glo-ree-bee..woohooooo. Funnel passed through but didn't guess!! Did you get lost in the Bluffer post?

postiler(POSS-till-urr)

1. Effective management of a vineyard

2. Someone who scribbles on paper

3. One who sets fence posts

4. One who writes notes in the margins of textbooks

hmmm

And Glo-ree-bee...the only feathers you are ruffling are mine when I join in your argument! I agree!!!!! Don't forget to factor in assemblies over the weirdest things sometimes, teacher meetings to fit into union hours take up half some days and they even cause 10am starts..AND SPORTS....Jer missed a day today for a swim meet where he was only in a 2pm race....or baseball where they spend the whole two days waiting a turn at tournaments!!! Drives me crazy. Off my soapbox!

WHAT ? ? ? I gave Corky ANOTHER point? And no one picked mine? Drat! Okay, I am going to get back into my winning ways . . . . .

postiler:

1. Effective management of a vineyard

2. Someone who scribbles on paper

3. One who sets fence posts

4. One who writes notes in the margins of textbooks

I am going to take a stab at guessing #4. One who writes notes in the margins of textbooks. Now I have to wait a day and see if I gave a point to Corky yet again . . . .

Funnel passed through but didn't guess!! Did you get lost in the Bluffer post?

If I guess I'll only give away a point to Tobyn or Corky...
I have to admit I did guess, but maybe it got lost in all the jabbering?

I guess... ummm... I... don't want... to give away... a point to... Tobyn or Corky... #1...

As it was Corky's I think there will be some :hammer: and :smack: and :bbbat: if I don't confess!

For todays word, postiler, I guess #1. Keep my fingers crossed!

/Erik

Ahhhh(sshhh...another point for COrky!! that must have been the highest scored points for one word, Tobyn? Have you ever scored 4 in a game?)...sorry to have missed you, Funnel, but I almost missed you today too if I had not seen that you were the last who posted before I entered the thread. I thought you were playing tricks on me until I remembered to hit linear display of the thread and found you hidden in a tangent off another post. I guess it must have logged me off and defaulted to hybrid at some point! I guess I'm too old to fiddle with the hybrid or threaded display!

We'll have to wait for Corky to join in or Glo...where's that whistling icon ...do de do deee doooo....later! Gotta go to work.
