My mom washes the plastic plates, too. And my grandfather (her father) never threw away anything after a single use. He always found another use for it -- and another and another and another, until the thing fell apart. Gosh, how I miss him.

The Sea of Cortez cruise looks fabulous, maw. I wish I could go... we're doing a shorter Mexican Riviera instead, and if we like it, we'll probably go back for a longer cruise. As far as Canada/New England -- let me warn you, Maureen -- you may get hooked like we did. But that's a good thing. :)

maureen.....

You may wish to learn a bit about Delft seeing as you found your mother had some pieces. It could be worth your time and attention to research. Some older pieces are very valuable....some are not.

Because one does not happen to know about something/ be familiair with something/ like something does not diminish it's value to those who are familiair with it and enjoy seeing or using it.

Styrofoam certainly has its place in the world.....so does fine china. As always, JMHO.....

Maureen,
turn a couple of pieces upside down and take a picture of the stamp ...(oh I do hope I am using the correct terminology:) ... on the bottom and I will see if we can track it down.

My aunt Glad used this beautiful china as everyday dishes when I was a child.. I just took them for granted and never thought of what they were.. They were just pretty to me.

Well one day while back visiting, and I must have been in my 30's at the time.. she said she was going to pick up a few new pieces they had come out with, so I went with her to Goviers.. I told her that as this china so reminded me of growing up in Sidmouth, I thought I would start buying some.

Well I walked into the store and picked up a piece.. took one look at the price and nearly dropped it. I turned it over and read the back for the first time in my life... The darn stuff that I had hand washed and sometimes broke.. was Royal Crown Derby..Posey pattern

Fortunately I now have over a 12 place setting of it, and every time I set the table with it, I am reminded NOT of the price, but of all the happy days that I spent with her.

And that is really the bottom line.. "stuff" should be appreciated for what it means to you, and not for the price tag that came on it.
And I bet that no matter if your mums china turns out to be high dollar Delft.. or "just" Blue willow... It will still have a high value in your heart. =hug

When I look at this I see "home" not $$$$$$$

And I see a proud tribute to your family history. Thanks for sharing, red. They are certainly beautiful, in many ways.

This is better than Antiques Roadshow on PBS. My Mom has a set of Japanese Noritaki (sp) china purchased on our FarEast trip in the early fifties. Always wondered if it was anything special. It only comes out on special occasions. I swear the tea/coffee cups don't have any weight to them at all. Try not to sneeze less they break into a million pieces.

By the way my chili is in my blue and white cup, and don't have an extra cigar in my tee shirt sleeve.

Red,

I neither see home nor $$$$. I see someone say "put that away before he gets within 15 feet of it!!!"

I got a box of vintage wine with an easy-pour spout....somebody grab those fancy blue and white cups!!!

And HAL is considering integrating Delftware into
their signature of excellence program

You boys having a good day. LOL Have the chili but no blue and white bowls for it think I can find a butter tub.

U are ALL having WAY too much FUN while E has been out slaving away with the power washer on the fence. :( Guess its time for my Kraft Easy Mac & Cheese on a plate from my plain white Kroger service of 8 china that I got at half price for spending $25 a week for 82 months. It does have a nice DUCK sculpture in though. :thumb Perhaps I also will roll out the Kraft -O - Matic Weenie cooker and have a couple of Hot Doggies with Grey Poop - On on them also. :grin Darn NO open Box Wine =shrug guess I will have to break a NEW box of the Cheap Red Crap that I forgot to take on the cruise. :dance

.

Oops guess I am tired as it twas Moi that posted above and NOT the little lady. :grin

PS . The Kraft - O - Matic still cooks a darn GOOD Hot Dog. :grin

.

I can sense that Frick & Frack, aka Mal D. & bOB, are revving up for their next cruise. HAL - on guard! The wackos are coming. :lol

you guys make me sorry that I deleted the picture I had ready to go.

an elegant table setting.. service for 4.. with an eye catching assortment of plastic (red and blue) plates, and paper ones.. double plated to show that I no ow to do thangs rite..... And some classic tumblers to drink that ripple out of... some even had pictures on them.. and all finished off with co-ordinating sets of green and red plastic knives and forks.
Oh yes.. the "peace de resistance" was the napkins still on the roll in the middle of the table :lol

John, those dishes are stronger than they look.. and they are special for the memories..
remember the bottom line.. no matter if your china is paper or porceline.... if it is on your table it is all the same value.. the only time that changes it is when you go to flog it..
flog = sell

And it just so happens I have an antique set of original paper plates from a BBQ held back in the 50's.... they still have the stains on them..

so who will open the bid??
