Never met an olive I didn't like
You mean when two individuals who'll remain unnamed quickly redecorated the accommodations by moving furniture around while you were in the bathroom?

Unless I had to many olives, I believe the Room Redecorating for Judi, was at the Flamingo in Vegas.

You could indeed have had too many olives, dear Sir, but I do remember some fast furniture shuffling at the then San Pedro Hilton.

Of course, I would not put it past a certain two individuals to make a practice of such furniture rearrangements on multiple occasions.

You all are making me jealous! At least I have a fun weekend to look forward to with many of you before you board.

We've been to Bermuda four times, most recently in 2006, and I am happy to share experiences and offer advice. (Sorry -- no can do for Swizzle Inn as PizzaBoy was with us on all of these trips.) Other than Norway, it's the most beautiful place we've ever cruised, and that's saying a lot.

Lisa - I'll be looking forward with the greatest of pleasure to seeing you and your family pre-cruise. I'm so sorry we couldn't pick a date that would fit in with school schedules so you could cruise with us.

Actually, Sis, the major room rearrangement happened at the Flamingo Hilton in Vegas.

However, when Jacki & Mike took you to the airport when we were in San Pedro, we had the key to their room and we did a bit of "minor" rearrangement! :D

Cousin Cody - fear not. Mommy would never do that to me. However.....

Beryl - we would love to have you join us!!

Sis - yes, I do remember your telling about the Vegas redecorating, but I remember some quick furniture rearrangement in San Pedro. I stand corrected that it was in Jacki and Mike's room, not yours. "Who, what, when, where?" can become muddled when watching a certain two at work!

room rearranging was at the Flamingo, San Pedro Hilton was removing all the bulbs from all the lights in Jackie and Mikes room, unfortunately they returned after dark. Why they would leave their room key in the hands of two trustworthy souls is beyond me but the floor lamp WAS left in the bathroom as a nightlight.............

As I said, I'll take your word for it. Frick & Frack's endeavors tend to blend together into one mass pandemonium.... :)

I guess it a bit early to talk about Hotels in New York. Having never been to the Big Apple, any ideas where to stay would be very helpful.

Any means of transportation that will get you to the Port of New York will be acceptable ...

Beryl - Yes, please!

Earl - It's a bit far out; but, the way things run in NYC, I would suggest locking something in by the 365 day mark. Personally, I'm thinking of trying to get into the Hotel Thayer up in West Point (I'm Class of '74). But, that may be graduation week, which means that all rooms were completely booked 4 years ago! Any research you can do for New York City will be greatly appreciated .... (I would suggest one where the furniture is bolted down!)

Mama Duck - I thought that "What happens in Vegas ... Stays in Vegas!"

earl even though it is a tad early to discuss hotels. This is just my opinion here.....

First, get the MIA or FLL mentality out of your mind. Free shuttles, free breakfast does not exist. Pay, pay, pay does. Walking, taxis, car service is the means of transportation. Renting a car is suicide as well as paying for parking will cost you as much as the cruise, okay not that much. But you will spend most of your time trying to park it.

Your least expensive hotels will be by the airport(s). Flying into LGA, or JFK imo are your best options. Add in transportation costs to get into Manhattan. EWR is also an option but again add in the transportation costs and time.

You might save on the front end, but will pay on the back end.

I sailed out of Brooklyn last year. I stayed at the Hyatt at Grand Central Station and got a bargoon price of 300.00 a night plus taxes. hotels in Times Square and near Central Park were between 500-600 a night for that time frame.

Another time, I used points to stay at a Marriott family hotel in Time Square. That was 550.00 a night otherwise. The hotel is 11/2 miles from the pier and took 25 minutes by taxi to get there.

Another time, we stayed the W hotel. The lobby was beautiful. We paid 250.00 a night with a group rate and the room was smaller than an inside cabin on a ship. If I had a 29" suitcase they would have had to hold it for me, unless I put it in the bathtub. The door of the room, hit the nite stand when you opened it.

Manhattan has so much to offer and I STRONGLY suggest that those who have never been there take the time either pre or post to explore. Bring aspirin, as the hustle and bustle for non city folk give most people a headache.

Who knows what hotel costs will be like in 2011.

As a true suburbanite, where anything longer than 10 minutes travel time is considered a family outing, Manhattan is a whole different way of life. They walk from point A to point B  and most of the residents dont own a car.

FYI, Fleet Week will be intown durning your Pre-Stay and Embark on the Veedam, as they also use the piers in Manhattan and along the West Side Highway.

I want to go...I want to go....I want to go!!!

Beryl, me to however, it is to far out for us to make any decisions.

Maryann, it has been a very long time since I been to New York, Hotels were expensive then so I know they are now. Just a question, would it be feasible to stay on the Jersey side, if you did not want to explored New York City.

Once I have numbers, we'll be looking into group discounts. NYC is very expensive - I've got to consider that.

Jeanie - NYC is, indeed, very expensive. If I can't come up with a decent rate at a decent hotel, then by all means it would be less expensive to stay near an airport.
