Free drinks - Hot coffee, iced coffee, hot tea, iced tea, milk (whole, 2%, skim, and chocolate), fruit and vegetable juices, fresh squeezed OJ (In the mornings on Lido), water (non-bottled), and capuccino's (when ordered in the dining room).

Cost - Spirits (beer, ale, mead, wine, liquor, champagne), sodas (CocaCola products).

Speciality Coffees/Hot Chocolates - From the Explorations Cafe (think Starbucks at sea).

Corkage is included with packages (the corkage is a fee for those bottles you bring on-board)

Yes, you can bring wine on-board ("in moderation").

Have been starting to look at the on-board indulgences. With the DGDs in tow, we were interested in the beverage packages. Currently, HAL is offering four, pre-paid beverage cards. A 15% beverage service charge will be automatically added to all beverage purchases and will be deducted from the value of the card at the time of purchase.
$50 Beverage Value Card - Purchase for $45 and receive $50 toward soda, espressos, non-alcoholic beverages, wine, beer and spirits.

$100 Beverage Value Card - Purchase $90 and receive $100 toward soda, espressos, non-alcoholic beverages, wine, beer and spirits.

$50 Non-Alcoholic Beverage Card - Purchase for $45 and receive $50 toward any soda, espressos and any other non-alcoholic beverages.

$50 Soda Beverage Card - Purchase for $25 and receive $50 toward soda purchases only.

You can use any of the cards for sodas/pop/soft-drinks; but you'll only be getting a 10% discount unless you use the Soda Beverage Card! So, it looks as though the DGDs will each be getting Soda Cards. Either thay make them last, or they learn to drink iced tea!

Note - From what I've found, if you have any credit left on the card at the end of the cruise ... *poof*

It isn't carried over, but if any of your original purchase price is left, it can be credited to your on-board account. (i.e. - Buy a $100 card for $90. End of cruise, you have $12 left on the card. Only $2 can be credited to your account. - If you have $9.90 left on the card ... no credit to your account)

Thanks for the info. It sounds like drink cards will work best for my situation. I'm trying to chip away at any known expense that will be incurred on board ship...I don't like having to do math every day of a vacation!

CODE RED -

Sounds ominous, doesn't it? First time cruisers will be pleased to know that it doesn't mean that we're under attack, even though The Ducks are onboard!.

Actually though, HAL implements Code Red with all the intensity of a Military action. To maximize the odds of everyone having a plesant experience on the ship by reducing the spread of Noro Virus (and other assorted nasties); on the first two days of the cruise, in the food areas, including the Lido Buffet, staff do all the serving; there's no helping yourself. They get your utensils, coffee, juice, etc., and the Purel dispensers are everywhere.

As a matter of fact, once the Code Red is lifted, you probably won't notice that much of a difference. You see, on HAL, other than the dessert bar and the fresh fruit & condiment stations in the Lido, you are always served! You simply let the prep cook know what, and how much you want. They plate it. Put a cover on it and pass it over to you. Quite a change from most other lines where everyone touches, pokes, prods, grabs and occasionally "sample tastes" the food.

In the photos below, please note the glass barriers between the countertop and the food.

:sunny:Just back from visiting my daughter in DC and got to come home to my "final payment" for the cruise due.
Wow it seems more real now that I am paying the balance. Wish I had saved up all my bottles and cans like Calgon did.
I am thrilled that the food is served instead of people serving themselves. Most folks are very good with that, but without fail there is someone a bit icky touching things with their hands. eek!

We went to a buffet in the Poconos (Caesar's, I think). I couldn't wait for dessert time because they had a make your own sundae bar. Just as I got in line, I watched a man take the spoon out of the caramel sauce, taste it, and put the spoon back in it. Needless to say, I lost my appetite. :(

I can't believe we're down to final payment time. That means we're close to organizing/packing time.

Suspect that Earl can pack fast because he doesn't take much in the way of clothes. Probably trying to be like Donald ...

I'm already breaking my doctor's advice about not working late, but for those who haven't already paid in full, please check your email tonight/tomorrow. You'll find your Final Payment "love note" therein.

Double-check everything, please, and let me know if you find any discrepancies, especially spellings of names. Those who booked later on may not necessarily find their requested dining on the Notices sent tonight, but I'll be doing my best to have your requests honored once final payments are in and I have exact numbers for dining charts.

While I have lots of notes in this thread to read and catch up on during my absence, a gentle reminder that - as with any group - only those booked through the official Agency are invited to participate in group-sponsored activities such as the Sailaway cocktail party, private Pinnacle Grill lunch and private deck party in Hamilton. Thank you.

And, again, a sincere :thankyou: for all your good wishes. They are very much appreciated!
