Beryl....a point for you for guessing correctly and you gain a point because Funnel picked your definition about your Log friend Jim!! That gives you a total of 3 points over the two days.

Argh! :madd:
You mean I was wrong? I really thought I nailed that one...

The new one (won't even try to spell it...) is easy though. It's 2... 3... 1... 4... no... it has to be... 2! :boogie:

HI
Sorry I'm so late but I was at work til a ridiculous hour.

Now for the winners..all of you who chewed...I mean, chose the earlobe chewer!!

Yes, Tobyn and Red, you get a point....and since Red snuck in before the rule of sending only one definition per game, she gets a point each from my Mom and from Funnel for choosing the lobotomy and gynecology defs! Beryl...you just get my award for good taste for picking the definition that I made up!!

As for scolopender (skawl-o-PEND-urr) , is it:

1. The name given to municipal workers et al. who spend the better part of their work day leaning on their shovels and waiting for their paychecks!

2. Someone who collects seeds.

3. A strange fish that when hooked, casts out its innards until it is unhooked and then swallows them again.

4. A preschooler

Your new word to define is:

globard (GLOW-bard)

No cheating...and send and choose your definitions without the dictionary!

As usual I'm a bit confused. I thought a scol... something was a thing that is not in the list, but I choose no 3.
I am sure that will not increase my total score...

I pick #2 ... last time I went with my first best guess.. I lost... this time I didn't go with my first best guess and I'll probably lose!

Late again here. Sonny boy decided at the last minute he was going to apply for university so there was mass panic til I figured out if he wanted only one university in British Columbia their date of application is in February...phew...saved for a little longer!

I am happy to announce that yahooo FUNNEL wins a point!!

scolopender (skawl-o-PEND-urr) is
3. A strange fish that when hooked, casts out its innards until it is unhooked and then swallows them again.

As for fooling people, REd takes the cake with two points for the actual definition of the word spermologist, one who collects seeds.... LOL I don't think you guessed what the definition was in this round though, did you REd!

Is everyone keeping a tally of their points? We'll have to do a recap at the end of the week.

So...what's a glowbard? This might be a tough one!

1. a lightning bug

2. a perspiring horse

3. A Cruise @ddict poet that lives in the SF bay area

4. a phosphorous plant resembling a lightbulb

Pick which one...........and then send me a definition via private message if you dare for:

barratry (barr-AT-tree)

I didn't go with my first best guess last time and I "losed"! So I'm going with it this time and guessing that scolopender (skawl-o-PEND-urr) is 1. ...a lightning bug!

Wow! I finally got it!

My guess (yes, it's just a guess ) for glowbard is no 4. I would have loved to say 3 but I stick to 4.
I cross my fingers...

Do you know what the best is with this? I will have a lot of very useful words that I can use in conversations with English speaking people. Will try some of them with a Scottish guy at the office one day.

I am so confused.. I am not sure what word we are on .. you need a colour system for the people that need seeing eye dogs..me:biggrin:

but if it is the glo(w)bard.. then I ought to get this one. it is a glowworm aka lightening bug

If it is not.. then I am dim:whistle:

if it is the fish that spills its guts out.. I am officially lost.
OH BTW.. I believe that the sea cucumber will also spill it's guts if threatened.

The current word to guess at is Glowbard. The next word that Seamom is looking for people to submit possible definitions for is "Barratry"

Thanks Tobyn..man, I'm getting dizzy myself now!! Okay...gonna do two threads...this will be your guessing thread and answers and the word of the day will go out on a separate thread each morning called BALDERDASH word of the day! I don't know the fancy colour codes that you know Red but this may be simpler.

Funnel!!!! You made me laugh so much thinking of using these crazy words in every day conversation with that poor Scot! He'll be thinking he has a whole new language to learn! lol

So...submit those last minute definitions for barratry and I'll post the answer later tonight and your new guessing game..............and the new word in the morning. Okay??

seamom

Staff Captain
BLUFFER...that's what I'll call the other thread with the new word...you'll be a bluffer with the word, and you'll choose on the BALDERDASH thread. Okay Red? Make sense?

I'm knackered so I'm off to bed for the night.

So...for glowbard......winners: Toby chose Beryl's so she gained a point and the real answer of lightning bug gave Red and Beryl each a point! Add up your points and we'll tally the week's winner on Saturday.

Barratry

1. An open two wheeled carriage

2. Negligence of a ship's captain or crew causing loss to the owners

3. The support post for a stair bannister

4. The name of Hooked's new bar on an outward Bahamian island

Pick the real definition!
New word tomorrow morning on the BLUFFER thread.

Similar to an Aviary or Hatchery a Barratry is where they raise Barries

That's ridiculous, if a sea cucumber is threatened it will simply hide in a sea salad until it is safe to come out.

Well, gee, I'll guess Bob's....(boy..if people weren't confused before, this should help!?:biggrin:)

Methinks Bob is pulling my leg!
