maws Bucket List Cruise - 9 Night Enchantment of Seas Can/NE 10/6/11

Hey guys, was on the Canada/New England cruise last year, and the tour that I took in Boston, The Old Town Trolley Tour, BX19, wasn't a very good tour, the tour guide was in a hurry to drive and talk, he would point out things of interest, then hurry up and speed by the place. Never saw the Old North Church, Paul Revere's house. Oh did get to see Fenway Park, and took a picture, but that was only because the light was red and we had to stop. So if your planning on taking that tour, don't... Someday I would like to visit Boston again and take one of the other tours.

I still do not have lugage tags. NOthing has come up allowing be to order.

Good Info Ginny. Looks like the Tour if purchased thru OLD Town directly allows for Off & On stops where folks wish to get off and back on so this would be the route to go IMO rather than booking thru the ship tours where they do not let U off the trolley. Perhaps Lisa can shed a few more highlights on this one.

Cuz E must of got lucky with this one. Looks like there might be a snafu in the RCCL site as both U & Denise had problems. :hammer: I would give Jenn a cal maw and see if she can possibly help U out like she did Denise. :boogie: Hopefully that can happen but if NOT then the porters at the pier can put on the appropriate tags maw so NO Worries.

Only 8 Lisa and not sure ALL want to do the Trolley so it probably an individual booking rather than a Group I would guess. So if they do same day bookings it might be easier for those wanting to make a decision that day.
E, it appears from the Web site (Boston Tour Options for the Cruise Ship Guest | Cruise Ship Excursions | Boston) that there are no ticket sales at stop 17A, which is closest to the cruise terminal. You may want to call them to ask about this. I highly suggest this tour rather than the one offered through the cruise line, as the cruise line's tour does not make any stopswhereas the one purchased individually does. The Bucketeers can hop on and off together.

I can also take the day off to join you and serve as your guide for the times we hop off. (Such as when we find oysters.)

Of course, if there's anything else you'd like to do, just let me know.

Lisa ... that is EXTREMELY gracious of U and I for one would love to take U up on the offer of guiding us around Boston. This is only acceptable however if U let US buy your lunch. Of course it also depends on how MANY other Bucketeers wish to go this direction. I was just looking at the Trolley site and see it also includes a harbor cruise. :boogie: We will definitely be doing the Pre Purchase of the tickets as IMO its definitely with our limited time the best option to see the area. :boogie:

FYI, on our last RCCI cruise, the website block luggage tags two weeks from the cruise... You had to get them at the pier from the porters

Maw, Jeanie is right. Today is the drop dead point for ordering tags. I beleive they are sending me 8 luggage tags....I will only need 3 at most and since you are next door you can use what I don't need

Lisa, that is so kind of you to offer to be our guide. My main concern is still the scooter situation (lack of) with getting off and on and touring about the areas we get off.

Good point Denise. Perhaps an alternative solution could be something with both a Trolley Tour and Lunch option. That way those wishing to do the Trolley Tour could and those NOT wanting to do the Trolley Tour could just meet at a specified restaurant/bar so EVERYONE could get together for at least lunch.

I know Quincy Market is an interesting area and should be scooter friendly so perhaps one option would be to select a eating/bar establishment in that area. Of course this option would still require transportation allowing scooters to be brought along to the area. The 2nd option and perhaps best might be a restaurant/bar in the terminal area or nearby if there is one. With Lisa's guidance perhaps she could make some recommendations as she I am sure knows the areas better than I.

I guess I need to also drop Meg (bostongal) a PM as she was wishing to join in on this gathering as well.

Hi. I just got back from the Boston cruise terminal. After my meeting, I took a walk around the terminal, as it's been close to a year since I've been there. I was wearing heels, so I was more aware of the sidewalk, curb cuts, etc. I remembered that there were long walks involved, yet I had forgotten that the sidewalks can be very uneven and/or narrow in places.

So, here's my suggestion for those who wish to take a trolley tour. Use either the cruise line's transportation (shuttle bus) or a taxi (vans sometimes available) to Quincy Market. This is where you'll find most of the history, as well as shopping and food (oysters!). There is also a trolley stop near there where tickets can be purchased. Those who want to do the whole loop can do so, then get off again at Quincy Market and catch the shuttle or a taxi back to the ship. Those who want to hop on and hop off the trolley can do the last hop-off at Quincy Market, and then get back to the ship from there.

I suggest leaving scooters on the ship and using wheelchair assistance from Royal Caribbean. I'll make sure everyone gets back to the ship OK.

Let me know what you think. This way also allows you to buy tickets day of.

:boogie: We are now on the 1st Page of The Cruise Tracker Bucketeers!!! :boogie: It will NOT be LOOOONNNNGGG Now.

Lisa ... thanks so much for ALL the effort U have put into researching this for us. I think we may still go ahead and buy the trolley tickets online as there is a bit of a discount involved. :whistle:The Quincy Market ticket purchase sounds like a Gr8 idea for those that wish not to Pre Purchase. Do U by chance know if there is a fee for the shuttle to Quincy that RCCL runs???

With your assistance, as well as ours and RCCL's we should be able to make this happen. I have also received a PM back from Meg (bostongal) & Marty and they are VERY excited about being part of this Mini Meet as well. If there is anyone else from the Boston area that anyone can think of that might be interested please make sure they have the info.

I think with these options it should be a FUN Day for ALL. Whether folks want to do the entire get together with the trolley tour or just Quincy Market and the Lunch gathering this sounds like a FUN Day ahead for ALL of US Bucketeers.
:boogie: Thanx again Lisa for taking ball and running with this. :thankyou: I will send BOTH U and Meg our cell # so we can have a communication link for the 13th and our day in Beantown.

I really would like to do TrolleyI think it would be doable with wheel chair help.. Should we call and ask abt wheel chair help- or Jenn or wait untile we board ship. Meetin in Quincy Market sounds like a good lunch solution looking forward to those oysters. I will book troleey ahead if you all think I should-need informed help making plans as usual. Hugs and kisses to you all for helping me.

I wonder what type of vehicle RCI uses as a shuttle....hopefully it will be easy for Maw to get on step wise. And I'd like to add my  to Lisa for all her recon help and we look forward to seeing all our Boston friends!

With regards to the wheelchairs I think the BEST bet is to make contact with the folks onboard the ship when we get onboard as they are the ones with the answers and the schedules maw. As for the trolley tickets I think I would wait until we get the real scoop from the onboard staff of RCCL. We can then make the necessary decisions with a COLD refreshment and a plate of cookies in front of US. :boogie:

I will have the booking info for the Trolley with me so after we get the necessary wheelchair info we can then decide on whether a pre purchase is necessary or its best to use the RCCL Shuttle to Quincy Market and then purchase the tickets. The good part about this cruise is that we will have cell phone communications at most of the ports so we can phone call ahead if need be.
