Tipping at the Pinnacle Grill

I also am not sure about Pita's statement that the dining and cabin stewards will complete their contracts and move to other cruiselines. We know so many of these stewards for so many years and it is definitely not our understanding from them that they have any intention of looking for contracts elsewhere. Every business I know of has a certain about of 'moving around' of employees among the competitive companies. Some always go from one to the other.

I do not have the impression of unhappy crews. In the last year or so, we were on Maasdam, Zuiderdam, Rotterdam, Maasdam again and recently Veendam. A pretty good sampling of the fleet. Of stewards we have known for years and spoke with, they are still smiling and are still providing the best service with the widest smiles.

That is not to say that Pita (or anyone else) did not speak with some who are hoping to leave HAL. But to imply it is widespread or even a large number, I do not think is accurate.JMHO.....

My understanding about tipping was that ALL tips were put into a pot and the Pinacle was no exception.
If a crew member was caught keeping a tip they were subject to dismissal-
I don't like not being able to tip our "Favorites" a bit extra. But the service was very nice. Nothing exceptional
at the pinacle on the Rotterdam.

In my opinion when the cruise line goes to automatic tipping there should be no extra tipping for any reason.I like the tradtional way of tipping and find that the service is much better.Just MHO.

There is nothing to stop you from tipping anyone anything extra that you wish.

You most assuredly can tip over and above your automatically charged amount.

If you have removed the automatic, you can still tip but it will be pooled. Crew will still be getting something from you which is better than getting absolutely no tip at all.

I believe the one providing the service is due the lions share of the extra not the officers .

just my opinion-
I will continue to hand the cash to my exceptional servers or this cruise I may just buy them a samll gift to beat the system a bit.

Officers do not receive tips. That are not a part of the automatic tipping program.

They are highly educated, very experienced, very hard working professionals. One does not tip an Officer.

Thanks for the clarification on the tipping i was somehow under the impression that the share were not equal and that some of the officers shared.
I feel better about adding to the pot.
We won't be eating in the pinacle this cruise unless there a bunch of dead heads at our regular table.
The wait staff on the Rotterdam was wonderfull and we actually missed them the night we ate with Lazlo at the pinacle.
Thanks again

Hope you have a wonderful cruise.

BTW.....most crew persons would never say so but they truly do not want 'little gifts'. They have no space to store 'gifts' and they are very limited as to the weight limits they can fly home with. (Same as us.....you know how airlines weight the luggage.) They would be discarding all those 'little gifts' they might have received during their contracts when they are ready to go home....if not before then.

The 'little gifts' they want/need are in the form of cash money. That is the best gift you can give them.
