The Duck Crew - 18 Apr 2013 - We Take on Hawai'i - QUACK!

Not sure what's in the box. Might be a Duck costume (or two). If not, I'll be wearing one of my Duck hats. Either the Court Jester or the Flapping Wings hat. Unfortunately, the Donald costume (that Bruce wore a few years ago) is long gone. About a month before his death, Bruce was going to sent it to me for another Duck Cruise., He said that when he took it out of the closet, moths had destroyed it. *sigh*

Making a change to our hotel reservation. We're going to stay at the Pan Pacific, but even with advance purchase, and discounts, we were still coming in at around $300+ per night. Checking my Marriott Rewards account, we're switching to Marriott's Vancouver Pinnacle Downtown, at 1128 West Hastings Street. It's only two blocks from the terminal and, using points, it's free. Guess those depolyments are paying off, after all ...

Aloha friends.

It is with a heavy heart that I must let you know that SunFlower and I will not be joining you on this cruise to paradise.

Last week, while loading some equipment into the (team's) van, I ripped my right shoulder (rotator cuff). Thankfully, not a lot of pain, just reduced mobility/range of motion. Unfortunately, it means surgery, which will probably take place in January or February (after this deployment). Not looking forward to that, as it will also mean a rehab of about 6 months, and there's the rub.

So, although we won't be with you on the ship, we will be with you in spirit. Please hoist a frozen thingie on our behalf and ... beware of the GloBug ...

Me thinks it would be a good idea to think about this one again sometime down the road....or better yet just book an airline ticket and visit Hawaii on a land vacation (which in my opinion...and it's not a humble one... is the very best way to visit the state of Hawaii and her wonderful islands)! So sad that this cruise has fizzled though!

We did cancel. Not a while ago, but def a few weeks ago. Just too hard $$ wise for us right now for HAL, air fare (yes, I was going to fly up. I need to do it, so I was going to bite that bullet), and hotel. Much cheaper for us to sail out of SF.

I agree. To spend 5 days to Hawaii and 5 days back and stay there for just a few hours every day for 4 stops or so, it doesn't seem long enough. I need to work on my flying skills on the mainland so I can attempt flying over the water! If I ever get there I want to explore and explore some more.

I'm sure you will have a fabulous time Charles. I did a similar cruise out of LA back in November. Loved the sea days and the island visits. So sad to read others have cancelled.
