Spring Break cruises

Generally, the week before Easter....to the week after Easter. Keep in mind some schools will be on a different schedule than that.

We have always sailed the same time of year for the last 4 years, and we hit Spring Break this past year March 19th 2005. It depeneds on when Easter and/or Good Friday fall....

We have always sailed the end of March or beginning of April. The time we usually go is considered spring break, which I believe is generally a week or two before Easter and the week of. Yes the ship is always crowded and there are lots of kids but it has never bothered us and has never been a problem. Our anniversary is the end of March so we always vacation at that time. I couldn't tell you what it compares to since we've only cruised at that time, with the exception of two 3 day cruises to Ensenada that were both taken in July. I have heard that the ships are a lot quieter and there are a lot less kids and young people during times other than major holidays and summer vacation. If lots of kids and the younger crowds don't appeal to you then this may not be the best time to cruise for you.

As noted above, spring break (AKA Easter vacation) is the week before and the week after Easter Sunday. Easter Sunday is April 16,2006.

Even if you did not know that, just go to a travel site and look at the pricing. Lets look at the Carnival Valor for example:

Date - IS --- OV --- Bal --- Suite

2nd - 650 - 800 - 1000 - 1500

9th - 750 - 900 - 1100 - 1650

16th - 750 - 900 - 1100 - 1600

23rd - 650 - 800 - 1000 - 1500

30th - 650 - 800 - 900 - 1500

As you can see, the week before (9th) and the week after (16th) Easter Sunday (April 16) show a price spike. From the pricing you can tell when a vacation is scheduled.

We will be on the Valor on April 2nd...looks like we might be missing the Easter rush by a week, although I am sure that it will still be very crowded!

Babushka -

I did not mean to imply that there would be less people. Just less of a certain class of people. There will be less children on the cruise if your cruise is during normal school time. Since the average ship goes out 103% full, I am sure you will not feel lonely on your cruise.

Cruizer...I understood what you meant. I didn't mean to imply that it would be less crowded when I went. Yea, I agree that there will be different people on the ship...probably a younger, crazier crowd out for Spring Break along with young kids out for Easter Vacation. I don't mind. We are in our 30's so it's no big deal for us, we aren't looking for that quiet, relaxing cruise yet. I definately don't want to feel lonely on my cruise, if that's what we wanted we'd go to a deserted island for a week! Can't wait for next April!!!

I live in Florida and our spring break does not occur during Easter. It is always in March. In my county, our spring break is the week of March 20th. Then, the county next to us has spring break on the week of March 27th.

So I guess if your trying to avoid spring break cruises alltogether it looks like around mid March to Mid April is not the time to cruise...unless this is what your looking for. Like I said before we've always cruised at this time and have always had a great time.

We don't let ANYONE, or anything, spoil our vacations.......if there were "spring breakers", we'd just have to party with 'em!

Just look for the higher fares! When you see huge differences in price, it usually means some sort of school holiday, long weekend, or some other event.

Our Spring break is usually the last week of March regardless of when Easter is. The Spring break period is about 6 weeks. You're more likely to have more kids anytime in March up thru the last week of Easter or mid- April.

The Spring Break cruises I've gone on were always the first week in April. And I'm shooting again for another spring break cruise in 2006, which could possibly be on the Valor as well.... April 2nd. Not sure yet, but hoping! :thumb

My son, 24, just moved home from Panama City Beach, Florida, Spring Break Capital of the USA, Spring Break for all schools, nationwide, is a 5 to 6 week period mid March to Mid April, the heaviest is reflected by the price spikes. We have gone 3 times during spring break, around mid to late march, and as a couple with no children in tow, we did notice a lot of kids, and a lot of college partiers, as well as old people like us. The ship is big, room for all to do just what they want. That is why cruising is so great, and Carnival does the best job. Relax and enjoy.
