What is a "reasonable" amount of soda you can carry on for a 3 day cruise? I see the term reasonable amount used. And can you just carry on the 12 pack or packs or do you have to have them in your luggage?
I would consider a reasonable amount to be 1pp/pd, but on a 3-day I don't see how they could object to a 12 pack or even a full case.
Carry it on though. Putting it in your luggage is rolling the dice that none of the cans/bottles gets crushed. A backpack actually works very well for a 12 pack plus swimsuit, shorts, meds, toothbrush, camera, etc., and keeps your hands free.
You can carry the soft drinks on in your hands if you want. Doesn't matter. I would think a reasonable amount would be 2 per person for each day of the cruise, but they won't say anything if you take on a couple of six-pks for a 3-day cruise. I take the 12-oz. plastic-bottled Cokes, but I put them in a separate smaller piece of checked luggage....only because I don't want to have to carry them myself. (I do put them in the 2-gallon ziploc bags, just in case of spillage.
This is just my opinion, and I am sure I will be blasted, but I think carrying soda or beer on board is just plain nuts. Why go to all that trouble lugging six packs (or more) in your luggage?
Just break down and pay for the stuff on board. It's a vacation, it should not require all this work on your part just to save a few bucks on board the ship.
Diver, I agree with you to a degree. I plan on buying a soda card for all of us but I like to have a cold coke in my room when I am getting ready. I am already going to miss my coffee pot in the morning but I am hoping to call room service for a pot in the morning while I am getting ready. I always bring soda when I travel, I guess it is just a frugal habit. I splurge on some things but am tight on others. And if memory serves me right cans of soda are $2.50 each. 4 sodas, one for each of us in the room is $10 just to wet our whistle. I would rather take that $10 and have a couple of cocktails later.
Diver - I don't think anybody will slam you for your opinion.
Whimsey - I believe the canned Cokes are $1.50 on the ship. However, the Cokes, Sprites, etc. that are in your cabin are $2.50 each! So yes, in my opinion, I'm saving quite a lot by bringing my own. I'm a solo cruiser, and the 6-pk. I bring costs $2.50!. So - I'm saving $12.50 right off the bat. More money to donate to the casino! LOL
Diver-- When traveling as a family- buying soda onbaord is an huge expense. Even for two people--on a 7 day cruise is over 80 bucks--- for soda??? I can buy a 12 pack for 2.99 and drink the free stuff onboard.
