I wasn't going to say who that section was for ... Sort of leaving it up to everyone's imagination ....

What a list! We've been to a good number of those places, but one of the strangest was Winchester Mystery House. I've been there twice and saw different stuff both times. I loved those little short stairs, and the window in the floor. She really had a great way to water plants, too. Bring on the rest!

Thought I would stop by the pond and mention that I am trying to figure a way to bring Alex along with me on the cruise. His freshmen year of high school starts the same week as the cruise and so he is unable to do indep. study. It could be that he will just miss the first 8 days of class. ::o

I think Mary Ann made reservations for Alex and I at the Holiday Inn Express also but Just for Monday and Tuesday. Well that is all for now.

Hi ya, DDD's!! We are now at the HIE as well...thanks to Cruise Cutie & Suer for having a chat with me. :) We arrive on Sat. Aug 8th so we'll keep an eye out for you!

Calgon - that is quite a list and one that I have copied. This being our first trip we are looking for all sorts of help. Thanks!

ginnylou - good luck with bringing Alex...what grade will he be in next year?

Speaking of Next year...can you all believe we have less than a year to go already? Man, it is coming on quick!

Quack-Quack!!

Everybody is getting so hyped up on booking the hotels I can even imagine what its going to be like when we finally sail!!!!!

Here is a look back at our Alaska cruise last week. The view, foliage, ice and animals......what a trip it was!!!

Those are great pictures snowblower. Thanks for sharing with us.

Is anyone else staying in SF after the cruise? I tried to book the HIE for Aug. 22 over night but as of right now it keeps coming up invalid dates can't book over 50 weeks ahead. I'll try again next week.

Everyone have a quacking good day. QUACK! QUACK! QUACK!

Ahoy There Ginnylou - QUACK!

You might try working a 'deal' with the Principal/Dean. They allow Alex to have the time off, and he keeps a journal of the cruise, to include a history of Alaska, overview of it's culture, etc., prepares a written essay/report and presents it to his class on his return. Present the cruise as a MAJOR learning experience for him. Don't accept excuses that he has to attend x number of days per year, etc. What would happen if you guys relocated to the school district after the start of the year? would they not allow him to complete the year? Don't think so. They can make allowances ,,, Hold their feet to the fire.

Ahoy Ducks and DITS...lot's of great things to do in SF that is for sure. I know I'd like to hit Napa as we only saw Sonoma last time, other then that I am pretty open....a city tour on the "Duck" thingee might be a fun "group" excursion....I can see it now, LOL......

Ahoy there, DDD's. I had to shut down the computer last night as we had a MAJOR - and I mean MAJOR - storm here. There's a possibility of more of same this whole weekend. :(

Thanks for the beautiful pics, Snowblower, and thanks for the continuing list of things to do in San Francisco, Calgon. Especially appreciated the list of bail bond places in case I have to spring any of you (I have a few culprits in mind).

Even though you all seem ready to do your own thing pre-cruise, I DO have to take ultimate responsibility. I'm about ready to start collecting paper bags to place over my head so I can skulk around incognito. :dizzy

Ginnylou, I would be happy to volunteer my services to take Alex "under my wing" to mentor him so to speak?

Looking at flight schedules for the airlines out of DCA even though they aren't open yet for our time frame I see where there is a flight a noon for ous from SFO to DCA returning at noon....do you think that is do able for returning from the Duck's cruise? I usually like booking 1:30ish as earliest.

A "Duck Thingie" is a DUKW. A type of WWI amphibious assault craft. There's an outfit in San Francisco which has bought and fixed up four of 'em, and take tourists (Duck Crew?) on tours of The City. Here's their web-site. http://www.bayquackers.com/

I have this vision of four DUKWs lined up in front of the Holiday Inn Express, on Wednesday morning, to take the Duck Crew down the street to the ship.

A Duck Parade !!!!!! QUACK-QUACK !!!

Ginnylou - Alex is, indeed, our newest DIT and, yes, you and he ARE booked at the Holiday Inn Express as requested.
