Well, I don't know about "as soon as I board?", but in general, yes, you can.
However, a caution (perhaps unnecessary if you plan to tip up-front): if you don't intend to distribute tips until the END of the cruise, why not leave the auto tips on the S&S until near the end so you're not tagged as a non-tipper by service staff? Shouldn't happen, but -- hey, servers/stewards are people too. Makes sense they might not worry over you too much if they like you for a stiff.

We usually leave the auto tip alone and tip extra in cash at the end of the cruise...something for you to consider as well.

Yes, you can remove the auto tips as soon as the Purser's desk is opened to the passengers. The staff will not know whether or not you removed the tips.

we had the tips removed when we boarded and then tipped our steward in cash almost daily. he didnt seem to mind and we received excellent service!! we also tipped others as we deemed appropriate. had a great time! :)

We just went on our first cruise two weeks ago. We were a bit perturbed at the automatic tipping before going on the trip.. Now.....after seeing how we were catered to.......and the service we got..... I would never dream of taking off the tip.... in fact we tipped more....because we were that pleased!

I have a friend who is a waiter on a ship. He tells me that the staff gets a note on people who took off their tips. (mostly they are supposed to find out why they took it off- did they get bad service-- make sure that he can change it) He stated that I would be surprised on the number of people that dont tip anything at all.
NCL has tipping added and you cant take it off. (if service is not good then it should be bought to someones attention so the staff at least have the time to change things.

I think the tipping prices are great where else could you eat 3 really nice meals a day for that amount of money? Dinner alone would cover that days tips at a resort .

Although,we've never tipped at an all-inclusive resort, ate great more than 3 times a day andnever even paid a dime for all the liquor we drank. :)

I've always taken the auto tips off my sign and sail account as soon as the pursers desk is opened. I prefer to tip in cash, I don't see the value of having tips on a credit card. I must say that in three cruises the service has been just fine. I asked the purser once after having read on one these boards if they inform the staff that the tips were taken off and was told no. Even if they did tell the staff, who cares? I tip for the service I receive and not before.

I'm with Sandy on this.

Last Carnival cruise we left the tip on our shipboard account and tipped extra at the end because the service was great.

The trip before that the waiter was making his assistant do all the work. We rarely saw the waiter. That time I removed the shipboard account gratuities and tipped in cash accordingly.

its so much easier with auto-tipping though and if your worried about money , it saves you money instead of pulling out your wallet constantly on the last day.
We did auto-tip on the cruise from Jan.04 on the Ecstasy and were going to tip on the last day because we didn't know the tips were included. Then , the lady at our table explained it was already included so we used that money for the casino (and tipped carnival that way instead)

Just a question about this "auto-tipping" service; do they give you some sort of slip or note that you can put in an envelope give to the waiter, attendant, etc... so you can actually thank them IN PERSON? Royal Caribbean provided this service...
