Our Lovely Liberty cruise (with pics) 8/9/14

.
It’s Embarkation Day!!!!

CL0109.jpg

We awoke to a sunny and very hot day. We had spent most of last evening repacking our suitcases from our Fascination cruise, but now they are retagged and ready to go.

We are booked on the first shuttle over to the port at 10:30, so we have plenty of time to relax, and do some last minute checking. Patti took a drive over to the local Dunkin Donuts and brought us back some bagels and coffee.

At 10:00, we loaded up the van, and drove our luggage up to the front of the hotel where the shuttle picks you up. Once unloaded there, I drove the van to the designated parking lot next door, parked, and then hoofed it back to the lobby. In the meantime, Patti had checked in with the shuttle coordinator, so now all we had to do was wait.

The shuttle arrived a few minutes before 10:30, and once the driver loaded up the luggage we were on our way. It’s only about a five minute drive to the port, and once we pulled in the first ship we saw was the Carnival Sunshine…..

Right next door was the Disney Fantasy…..

Then finally our first view of the Carnival Liberty, our home for the next eight days…..

We were just about there, but then alas, we had to wait about ten minutes for a spot to open up to unload our luggage. Once we were allowed to pull in, the whole process went extremely fast. We made sure the porters put the orange Priority / FTTF tape on our bags, and then we tipped them. Security and check in was a breeze, and just as we were handed our sail and sign cards, the announcement was made that the Diamonds and Platinum’s could begin boarding. We joined the short line, took our embarkation photo, and we were on the ship at 11:15…..

You board the ship on Deck 3, and our first look at the inside of the Liberty, was of the Flowers Lobby and Bar at the bottom of the Garden Atrium…..

Patti and Ryan wanted to do the Behind the Fun tour on the last sea day, so because it is so popular, we went straight to the Shore Excursion Desk to book it.....

Our next stop was across the way to Guest Services, to get a cabin key made to "my" cabin for Patti. I guess I should explain. We booked this cruise about nine months out, using a casino rate that both Patti and I were given. In order to get that rate for the two cabins that we needed, I had to book myself and Kevin together in one, and Patti and Ryan were booked in the other. Once on board, Patti and Kevin would switch, so the boys would be together, and Patti would be with me. We would just get key cards made, and not switch the names in the system, so that when it came time to purchase the Cheers program, I would only have to pay for myself. So that is what we did, except that now Ryan had a cabin to himself, which he was OK with.

It was time to drop our carryon bags in our cabins, so we made our way up to Deck 7. Here's a picture looking down at the Flower Lobby and Bar.....

The Welcome sign on the heavy doors, letting Diamonds, Platinums, and those with FTTF know, that it is OK to go to your cabin now…..

We are at our cabins, 7201 and 7203, all the way forward on Empress Deck 7. These are the category 4J cabins, which are listed as an inside with a walkway view, the walkway being the not so “secret” deck. The doors to these walkways are down the hall on either side. First is Patti and my cabin, 7201…..

Now that we have our bags dropped off, it's time to head up to the Lido Deck for some lunch. Just two decks up and to mid ship, our first view was of the Seaside Theatre.....

This was what I was waiting for, my first 2.0 experience, Guy’s Burger Joint. I was immediately drawn to the Pig Patty. Great burgers! I’ve had better, and I’ve had worse, but they sure hit the spot…..

Here is the Cheers Table. I had never purchased the program before, simply because Patti is not a big drinker, but since we are in "separate" rooms on this cruise, she doesn't have to purchase it, so I was going to go for it. It must be my lucky day, because starting with this cruise, the price per day had dropped from $49.95 to $37.50. So my cost for this cruise was $37.50 X 8 = $300. Plus 15% gratuity = $45. For a total of $345. Let me tell you that I finished well ahead of the game on this cruise! Let me just inform you in advance, that while you are in Port Canaveral, and until you are out in the open sea, you will be charged local taxes on a per drink basis. I think it was about 30 cents a beer.

Here is the Versailles Pool, all the way aft on Deck 9.....

The Pizza Pirate is also back here.....

Coffee and ice cream are available here.....

Also back here is the Versailles Pool Bar, on the port side. Here I am there showing off my white Diamond sail & sign card. I became Diamond on this cruise, but the real reason I'm showing off the card is because of the blue "Cheers" sticker on it!

It was time for our roll call informal meet and greet and this is where we were going to meet. About 20 or so showed up, and we spent the time up until the muster drill, getting to know each other. We would be meeting again tomorrow for the cabin crawl, then later in the week for the slot pull. Meanwhile, Patti, as she loves to do, used this time to start her photo tour of the ship, which you will see on the following pages.
