NCL Dress Code?

GOOD FOR NCL!! I think that if I were seated next to a "slob" I might ask have my seat changed and tell the Maitre de why or call him over and tell him I was unhappy about the dress code.. Flip flops no..no, no..shorts in a dining room the same...:S

boy do I agree: casual is one thing, sloppy another. There are times and places for everything and a dining room on a cruise ships isn't the place for shorts or rubber flip flops. I am not talking about the cute sandel ones, but regular ff.

I agree you should look nice for dinner, but I am not sure why a man can't wear dress shorts. My husband is a very classy dresser and has many Tommy Bahama collared shirts that look awesome with linen dress shorts. He has nice deck shoes and looks very well put together in the ensamble and I wish he could dress that way more often on the casual nights.

Because they have to draw the line somewhere and who has the right to decide what shorts are ok and which are not. You think hubby looks great dressed that way, sounds like he does, but maybe Bertha thinks her hubby looks awesome in his cargo shorts and faded demun shirt. Is Bertha wrong? (I am not making fun of anyone named Bertha by the way) They have to have certain guidelines.

To each his own. I have seen some women in "formal gowns" that would have looked better in "Bertha's hubbies get up".
Dress shorts that fall just above the knee is a pretty good description of what you can and can't wear. I'm just sayin.

Golly Caly, I think you are missing what I am trying to say: i do not disagree with you at all, my point is the cruise lines have to make certain rules. If they leave a policy open to the judgement of say the hostess, can you imagine what would or could happen? It's life dress codes at schools, restaurants that say we will not serve you dressed a certain way or casual Fridays at many companies, but they still have guide lines. I am just trying to explain the reason for the policies that cruise lines have, not defending them or criticising them.

Wow! I didn't realize we had to have dress clothes for an NCL cruise...
I live in a town where shorts and flip flops or jeans and tennis shoes are worn almost anywhere...even nice restaurants. Can we not wear jeans to eat? I expect to live in jeans while on my Alaskan cruise, I planned on not even bringing dress clothes
The reason I chose NCL was because I did NOT want to have to dress for dinner.

I've seen black jeans in the fancy dining rooms on NCL. It's either allowed, or maybe no one can tell the difference in the dim lighting between black slacks and black jeans.

you are right, jeans are allowed. I do think each ship has one dining room that does not allow jeans, but I am not sure if even that has been changed.

I had sailed on the sky, and shorts were allowed in one of the formal dining rooms. I am not sure if this policy is the same for all ships or not, I would suggest going on NCL's site, finding your ship and the dress code information should be located there
