Motion sickness

Either one will work. However, I can't tell you which will work the best for you. I will give you some good advice though.. Before you sail, buy either at Walmart, Kmart, etc. You can purchase them on the ship, but for an outrageous price.. 3 tabs for $3.95 on Princess, as compared to .052 per tablet at Walmart.. It's your call... Bombero

We were in a tropical storm last October. Many people went to the ship's doctor and got a shot. If bonine or dramamine don't work, go to the doctor.

on hal ships the meds are free of charge at the medical facilities or at the front desk

Not only are they free of charge, I found for me they work the best. The first evening the dining room was nearly empty when it hit me that we were rolling from side to side. I felt so ill I didn't want to get up from the table (you know the feeling) The waiter appeared with this little pink tablet and I felt better within a half hour. He then told me to drink ginger ale and eat a green apple, which I guess calms the stomach. For the rest of the week I got these little pills from the front desk and took them for all sea days. I felt great.

I FOUND THAT THE BEST FOR MOTION SICKNESS IS THE TRANS SCOPE PATCH. I GET VERY BAD MOTION SICKNESS AND THIS WAS WONDERFUL. I NEVER GOT SICK ON ANY OF THE CRUSIES THAT I HAVE BEEN ON. I AM GOING ON A CRUISE ON JULY 31.

a word of caution about the patch. Some people have very bad side effects from it. Have a cousin who thought she was going blind and couldn't even read road signs! She gets motion sick even in vehicles. She had to take it off and was advised by Dr. not to try one again. She'll have to try something else. I think I'd try one at home first to see how you will react. I hope you find something that works for you. I'm so glad I've never had to deal with that motion sickness feeling! Good luck

One other thing to try are the travel sickness wristbands, they are available in the ships stores and they worked grea tfor me, they are drug free and work on your pressure points,so no nasty side effects..There are certain medical conditions where it is not advisable to take seasickness tablets, such as asthma(read the packet). Of all the tablets though, Bonine are for sure the best as they are a less drowsy formula.

I will second the warning about the side effects often experienced with using the patch. Its just impossible to tell anyone if they will experience this or not. If you are among the unfortunate ones who do experience these side effects, they are in some cases worse than the motion sickness they are intended to prevent. The patch requires a presciption (I believe?) whereas the Bonine is OTC. We took 2 remedies/preventatives last time we cruised, Bonine and SeaBands. The Bonine worked fine and we never needed to use the SeaBands. I suggest you research the options and try to choose one (or better yet, two) that seem to be best suited for you. Keep in mind, all medicines (Bonine, patch, etc) will bare warnings on alcohol consumption. Only the wrist bands will allow you to drink as much alcohol as you wish.

Another note - "test" the bonine or whatever motion sickness remedy BEFORE you go on the cruise. Take it at home to see if you have an adverse reaction to it. Better to learn there that on your vacation.

You can also use ginger root capsules. Heard about them on the boards, used 1 twice a day starting the week before the trip, continued during the trip and a few days after (I actually don't get sick aboard cruising, just afterwards--"landlegs"!) Was on my 4th cruise 2 weeks ago and didn't get sick at all, even did a deepseafishing trip for about 6 hours (used 1 bonine tablet the morning of the fishing trip). Definitely didn't get the "landlegs" at all, either. It was so nice to come home and not be dizzy for 3-5 days afterwards. Usually ginger doesn't have side effects, but someone at work got sick taking them. So definitely try them before the cruise---try anything you plan to use before the cruise, and if it makes you sick, go with something else. My relatives used bonine for the fishing trip and got very drowsy (but we were up very late the night before), just a personal reaction, I guess. Don't know about using ginger root and alcohol. (I don't drink). Does anyone else?
