Let's Play BALDERDASH!!! (copyrighted game name)

Hope Balderdash won't mind us playing online....it's free advertising  for a very fun party game!

It may take a few tries to get the bugs out of this online version as I'm trying to figure it out as we go along so everyone can have fun.

Here's how I think it will play:

I have the actual game and I'll pick a card and let you know the word to define (hopefully in the morning if things aren't too rushed)

....and we'll play til either someone picks the right answer, it gets boring and we need something fresh, or once a day if I can get to the board (I work fulltime so expect evening sometime for the answer and new word). All this depends on the board's level of participation, however!!!

The idea will be to guess which is the REAL definition. You can choose if you want to guess from definitions I post OR after I post the word, shoot me your own made up definition by private message and I'll post it with the real definition for posters to choose from in the evening..........and even if you send me your FAKE definition, you still have a chance to pick from the others to find out the real one! The cleverer, more concise and dictionary-like, the more you can fool our C@ players...and be honest with yourself, DON'T LOOK UP THE WORD IN THE DICTIONARY!! You'll find you'll get more laughs if you just guess....

Here's a sample:

I'd post
breasthook (BREAST-hook) and give it some time for people to respond to me with answers.

(behind the scenes after that, secretly to my private message box...let's say for pretend sake, Beryl sends me her made up definition.."breasthook....A jacket button where one hangs their trivia writing pen"......and then Redstripe sends me "breasthook...an attachment on a sundress where strategically placed balloons can be attached" ..........and then Hooked sends to my private message "breasthook...A fishing lure for female fish" (.....now those don't sound authentic as you may even recognize the writer!! but hope someone got a chuckle and an idea how it works..you don't have to be serious..you'll see when we get going)

So when I've given sufficient time for response, I'd post on the same thread like Peas and Carrots:

BREASTHOOK

1. A jacket button where one hangs their trivia writing pen

2. An attachment on a sundress where strategically placed balloons can be attached

3. A timber in a ship added for strength

4. A fishing lure for female fish

Then you all guess and post which one you think is the real definition because you don't know which ones are made up (I hope you picked number 3!).....want to try?? I'm looking forward to some responses, I only need about 3 definitions in private messages and then I'll post for you to guess if I'm around.

Here's the first word:

CRISSUM (KRISS-um)

So...either shoot me your own definition in private message or come back later when I post the definitions (let's try for 9 tonight if I'm still wake) to choose from and post your guess...........see ya later..let's see if this works.

*if I've been confusing, don't give up, I think when you see it in action, it's simpler than reading my long instructions!

Okay....slow start but I did have a definition sent in.......... post your guess for the right answer of the ones below and I'll also give you a new word for the next game. If you want to send me a fake definition via private message, I'll post it tomorrow morning.

CRISSUM (KRISS-um)

The definition of crissum is:

1. The feathers around a bird's bottom.

2. An area of ocean between the flotsam and the jetsam.

3. The total number of gifts that were placed in your stocking by Kris Kringle!

4. The number of Criss Angel lookalikes in Las Vegas

Post your guesses now...see if you guess correctly!

And for the next round tomorrow morning, the new word is (now don't look in a dictionary!):

Logimanous (lawn-JIMM-a_nuss)

If you want to be one of the definition makers, send your fake definition to my private message box. I'll reveal who sent one of the fake ones above tomorrow with the answer to "crissum".

You are quick witted there Beryl....but darned if I even had a chance to correct it to say BIRDDDDDDD before you posted!! :p

Let's let it sit for a bit longer to see if you are correct as hubby is waiting for me to finish watching a movie with him. Perhaps I'll fit another game in if a correct answer has been posted by the time I get back.

:loungelizaed: Okay boB...we're missing an icon..........laughing til you snort!!

The bell just rang for this round and I'm declaring Beryl the winner of one point at this stage.........she made up the definition 3. The total number of gifts that were placed in your stocking by Kris Kringle! which nobody guessed (or she'd get a point for each poster she suckered into answering the wrong definition) BUT she chose the correct answer number 1....yes, indeedy. Crissum is the word for feathers on a bird's bottom.

As for boB, we give ...welllll what do you give a guy who comes up with another definition after the correct answer has already been given? A round of applause.........

So...catching on to the game? (Next time I'll post earlier so I can coax my mom to play along!

Okay...well unless all the disco party lovers are coming back to play a fast round...remember, still time to send in fake definitions for:

Logimanous (lawn-JIMM-a_nuss)

I'll post again in the morning.....

Oh gee, you bored of me yet? Told you I had to figure this out a bit as I went along. I want to keep you busy by thinking up a new fake definition for logimanous (lawn-JIMM-a-nuss) to send to my private message box AND/OR be posting guesses to the correct definition of a word so here's another practice one:

What is a zinzulation (ZIN-zoo-LAY-shun) ?

1. The feeling you get after drinking an entire bottle of zinfandel

2. An accusation made in a courtroom by a group of eco-activists

3. A pole dance move invented by ZinZinZinnia, an exotic dancer of the 80s

4. A sound similar to the noise created by power saws.

(Don't look at a dictionary!!!!)

I'm going for #1...."tion" indicates a process of some kind and I'm taking it that the process is becoming just a wee bit tipsy!

AHA!! I've got players!!!! yahooooo..thanks for joining in! WElcome

Okay guys...sorry to say that the real answer is...(drumroll!!).............

Zinzulation
4. A sound similar to the noise created by power saws.

No winners this round as I made up the other three answers and no one guessed correctly......here's your next guessing game choices (I had one contributor so come on..send in your definitions, funny, serious or even one worded(but keep it clean!) :

Logimanous (lawn-JIMM-a_nuss)

1. Having long hands

2. It's when your log rolling neighbour named Jim comes and shovels the 2 inches of snow that fell overnight off of your driveway!

3. Acting seasick

4. The act of being logic

Post your guess of the above and here is the new word to send me via private message, a definition for(and NO ONE should use a dictionary or google it!):

Gynotikolobomassophile (pronunciation???? yikes..do your best!)

Funnel

Food and Beverage Manager- Special Contributor
Zinzulation
4. A sound similar to the noise created by power saws.

Damn, I was just going to say that, but was too late.

This is difficult for us that does not have English as our native language but out of 4 there should be 25% chance...

By using sheer logic, the new one just has to be #2. Don't everybody have a neighbour named Jim in the US?

Well since tomorrow is Monday, rushing Monday, I'm going to finish with these words tonight instead of tomorrow morning and will post again in the evening.

I'm adding a new rule....send only one definition for each new word or the odds of you guessing the correct word increase...sorry to dampen creativity out there but give me your best and save some energy for future ones!

Beryl....a point for you for guessing correctly and you gain a point because Funnel picked your definition about your Log friend Jim!! That gives you a total of 3 points over the two days.

Logimanous (lawn-JIMM-a_nuss)

1. Having long hands

As for

Gynotikolobomassophile (pronunciation???? yikes..do your best!) is it:

1. A collector of large quantities of Tiki artifacts

2. A revolving platform for doing a lobotomy

3. Someone that likes gynecology subjects

4. One who enjoys chewing on a woman's earlobe

Your new word to define is:

scolopender (skawl-o-PEND-urr)

Beryl

Trivia Specialist
I'm feeling the south pacific and Trader Vic...and I'm going for #1... a collector of Tiki objects....Tikis have massive earlobes don't they? ....though it probably #4! I'll stick with #1...ALWAYS GO WITH YOUR FIRST BEST GUESS!
