Lainai on Veendem

Well, I will confess, Joe & I have the cabin next to maw & paw and Denise & Bill. So all of us can sit out on the deck together in our jammies. Tell paw I don't care what color his gutchies are. Maybe he can wear some duckie shorts. This is going to be interesting.

Re: Lanai on Veendem

The look in/look out precautions apply to ANY cabin on any ship's promenade deck. The Lanai cabins are an interesting concept, especially for those who enjoy using the promenade deck. Normally, anyone who chooses a promenade deck cabin (by whatever name) on any ship is well aware of the possible noise from the deck, and many ships prohibit jogging except during certain hours.

Let's keep the jogging concern in perspective ...

1) This is Holland America my feathered friends. There are not that many joggers.

2) Unless they are slapping the deck with giant clown shoes, they're not going to make that much noise.

3) Holland America is a (fairly) professional business concern. They actually do study concepts before they sink funds into projects of this magnitude. If the Lanai cabins have such inherent faults (noise and/or privacy), the word would quickly spread through the TA industry and the passenger community (thanks to Internet forums, like this). In very short order, Lanai bookings would drop to almost nothing and the fleet would be sailing with many empty cabins. ... Not going to happen!

they have a special coating on the windows.. remember that most reflective coatings only work with the light off
In the evening when you switch on your lights, you had best check that there is not a crack in the curtains.

Also, remember that any time you pop out those doors...the door will lock behind you.. unlike any regular balcony door. So always have your room key with you.

I also mentioned in another PM that if in the evening you can see yourself in those doors, and they look like a great mirror.. then it means that anyone outside can see in as clear as day. :) and remember.. NO GAP in those curtains.. or we will see paws shorts on you-tube..:D

A point to remenber. I guess, it depends what they use on the windows

Come over and join us. I am a person who doesn't sleep to good. So it would be normal to see me sitting outside at 3 in the morning. So if you can't sleep come on over to our deck and we will lay back and look at the stars and watch the world go by.

Calgon - the demographics on HAL are changing. While you're not going to have the athletic activity of Carnival, RCI, etc., you DO get more and more who - yes - jog as well as walk.

HAL has been sponsoring "On Deck For The Cure" for several years now - the numbers who actively participate are surprisingly high.

Going back to my original statement, I said

Normally, anyone who chooses a promenade deck cabin (by whatever name) on any ship is well aware of the possible noise from the deck, and many ships prohibit jogging except during certain hours.

I wasn't necessarily referring to HAL.

I have my Ducky throw from last cruise so I am all ready. Look out girls I will probably come out door and join you. I am awake so often at 3. It is bad to be this excited abt a cruise so early and so long to wait. I have trouble sleeping in bed so the lounger looks better all the time.

I'll try to remember to look when I get home, but I'm almost positive they reserve the promenade for walking. All joggers are requested (and they usually comply unless the weather is krappy) to go to the sports deck.

Well, Jim is a smoker - so we need a cabin on a deck where he can smoke. These sound good except for the part of not having a table to eat outside - I love my breakfast on the balcony and afternoon coffee and snacks!
