Junior Suite Perks

We're considering upgrading from a balcony to a junior suite on the Splendour of the Seas. Does this add any extra perks, like priority boarding? Does this also help at tender ports?

Ken, we had no other perks in the JS including priority embarkation. We went to the line and there was a board with the cabin nos. posted that received it and ours wasn't there. We had to wait in lines like everyone else for tender tickets, etc. The cabin is a nice size though and you have a full tub (with curtain!) and a walk in closet.

We just returned Sunday from the Mariner and we had a Junior Suite. We usually get balcony cabins but are now hooked on the JS as it offers so much more walking around room, bathtub, walk-in closet, etc. It's well worth the extra price. One caveat - the tipping guidelines for Suites is $5.75 per day per person as opposed to the $3.50 per day on standard cabins. This guideline only appears in the Cruise Compass and not the standard tipping guideline handout. It's still worth it!

Why would it be more for gratutites pp for a suite compared to a regular balcony.. Especially with a junior suite since there are no more amenities then a regular balcony cabin? the only difference is the size of the cabin.

My wife and I are booked in a Junior Suite on the Adventure of the Seas on 2/6/05. We were wondering if there were any other perks besides the size of the room and this pretty much answered our question. As far as the extra gratutities are concerned, I tip according to the service provided, not what they recommend. Sometimes the tips are extra and sometimes not.

A few years back you could get the services of the Concierge and the Concierge Lounge with the Junior/Cat C Suites but that is no longer. The size of the cabin is wonderful and the bathtub and extra room in the cabin is great. Also the walk-in closet is a lifesaver for storage.

Interesting reading because I just booked a JS for the Voyager next November. We have never had such a cabin but the price was too good to pass up. What is the Cruise Compass?

Cruise Compass is the Daily activity paper that you receive in your cabin each night for the next day/

It's the daily activites paper for the ship. You will receive a new one every night from your cabin steward after he has cleaned up the cabin for the night. You can check at http://cruiseclues.com/shipstips/voyageroftheseas.htm for Compasses for the Voyager. The entertainment is usually the only thing that changes from cruise to cruise but it will give you an idea of what will be happening on your sailing. Have a great cruise, the Voyager is wonderful.

I just returned from sailing on the Splendour last week. We had 2 adjoining Junior Suite cabins. We did have a tub, we did not have a walk in closet, and our balcony was a very nice size. Our table mates had a suite but they could not remember which type (Im guessing it was an owners suite), they mentioned the higher gratuity for their cabin service. Our "automatic" tips showed the standard $3.50 per person, per day as in the guidelines. The only difference in tipping amounts was that they added .75 per day per person for the head waiter. Our total came to $68 per person for the week, which we received a voucher for right before the last dinner. Upon check in, we were directed to go through the "suite" line, but both lines were pretty short when we arrived (noon-ish) and both got considerably longer thereafter. As for disembarking, we were scheduled to be off the ship by 9am, but our tags were called around 8:30, it does appear that these cabins leave earlier than others of lower categories.

One new perk, though it may not be important to you, is that you receive 2 CA cruise credits for JS category on 7+ day cruises.

We got the extra cruise credits on our 4 day cruise on the Monarch. No walk-in closet though! But with 3 of us in the cabin (our 16 yr old went with us) it was perfect.. she could pull the curtain across the room and have her own area for changing or sleeping on the sofa bed. And the balcony really added to the size of the room. It was very nice.

The walk in closets were on the Voyager Class ships.
