We will be arriving at the airport in San Juan and staying at the El Convento Hotel in Old San Juan. Does anyone know how much cab fare will be? We will also be taking a cab back to the airport after our cruise. I assume the fare will be the same amount. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Terri

I'd be interested to know this as well, as we're doing the same thing in November.

Cab fares from the airport are price controlled. Just outside [or sometimes inside] there will be attendants to direct you to a taxi. They will ask where you are going. The zone determines the fare. Old San Juan is the farthest hotel area from the airport. Don't know what the fare is today but it will be determined for you. They will give you a chit reflecting the price. There is a surcharge for luggage over a set small amount.

I have never taken a cab from the shore terminal to the airport so do not know if the same procedure holds true or if they use the meter. If the fare has not been determined prior to leaving for the airport either establish the price [you will have a good idea of its cost because of your trip to the hotel] or have them use the metro ['metro por favor'].

They charge by how many people and how many bags. I believe I paid about $17 one way, not including tip.

Was that from the port to the airport? How many peopledid that includeand how many bags did you have?
thomaseu - thanks, one more word to add to my small spanish vocab. I think I can handle the question now that I know what I may be asking. Terri

We paid $23 from airport to Old San Juan. They charge by person (we had 4) and by the number of bags. The driver counted our carry-ons as baggage. I thought the price was very reasonable. Get your taxi slip either inside at the stand in baggage claim or outside at the taxi line.

Two people and five bags. Don't ask why so many bags. The ride is from the airport to the ship.

I can completely the 5 bags and two people, we will definetly equal that on this trip. Thanks for the help. Terri

The El Convento Hotel is beautiful from what I see on websites, wondering on the rate you got.
Thanks

I'm not sure it was a great rate, but I did look every where but priceline before I booked. I could not believe that the hotel charges per person, per night. Expedia was also to much. I booked through Royal Caribbean. It was 150.00 per person per night. Still cheaper than booking through El Convento, who charges 191.00 per person per night. We just couldn't resist the history and the feel of the place. The reviews on the hotel are great. Are you looking to book there? When would you be going?

We're staying at El Convento in November. Booked through Expedia and got a rate for two adults of $165, not including taxes.

You got a much better deal. Maybe I booked to early, 2005 rates were just out. Mine does include transfers to the pier, even though I believe it's like 5 min away. Let me know what you think of the hotel. And have a great time. Terri
