Gosh my life is so ordinary.

Hubby and I were teens, working in a grocery store. He was a stock boy, me a cashier. Started dating, married six months later. That was almost 37 years ago.

Back during the Vietnam War our local VFW would have parties for ambulatory patients who were recovering at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Philadelphia. Philly was a big amputee recovery hospital at the time. Leatherneck was there as a patient for ear surgery. We met at a party on a Sunday afternoon…in fact, last Friday was our 38th anniversary of meeting. I didn’t work far from the hospital. We had a movie date the next Tuesday night then he had his surgery that Thursday and I started visiting him. By May were were married and we will celebrate 38 years on May 2nd. The rest is history =love

after being dumped after 20 years of marriage, i used to go out to restaurants for dinner by myself. i couldn't stand to be home alone when my girls were at their fathers'. Garry (also freshly dumped) and i met at one of those restaurants. that was seven years ago. even though i refer to him as DH, we are not married. we are living blissfully in sin.

So many romantic stories here. Mine seems kind of ordinary. We went to same Junior High School and school was small enough that you knew most everyone. When we got to high school we had drivers ed together I can remember him laughing at me when I tried to put tire back on wheel when we were learning to change tires. We had lots of friends in common and it was normal we all would meet at the local drivein. The night of the college Mixer his first year we kinda hooked up and had a fun evening. He took my class ring that night and gave me his --and as the story goes that was it. This was Sept and we mrried in March 52 years ago.

My ordinary story is that we met through mutual friends and after two years of knowing one another he finally called and asked me out. I said yes. That was 29 years ago. This year will be our 27th wedding anniversary. I can't even fathom that it has been that meaning years and I'm living it. Ha! :lol

I've really enjoyed the stories. Thnx!!

I was at the Steeplechase races in Virginia and had a little too much to drink. I met Ginger for the first time that day and she drove me and my car home. Little did I know that all of my married friends had set me up. Anyway even after that first meeting she still wanted to go out with me and we've been married for 14 1/2 years. Who'd have thought? LOL.

Well, Susan and I are not married but it is a great story.

I was working as a cruise sales agent at Expedia in September of 2001. One day a call came in from a young lady looking to book a cruise on Sovereign of the Seas. It was Susan. I remember remarking to my roomate (and co-worker) right after I got off the call that I really thought she was interesting (which was unusual for me because I was a confirmed bacholer). She went on the cruise and the guy she had invited didn't go with her. She sent me a post card from the Bahamas which I have here on my desk to this day. Shortly after that we started e-mailing and then calling and finally in January decided to meet in person in Washington DC. She drove up from Richmond where she lived at the time and I flew in from Phoenix. It was a wonderful weekend and she swept me off my feet. That was six years ago and we've lived happily ever after :)

My family had a favorite camping spot at Lake Wappapello in SE Missouri. We would go as often as Daddy could get away. One Memorial day, he asked his friend and his family, who lived across the street, to join us. He in turn, invited his brother and family. They camped next to us, and I sat and watched as this good looking guy put up their tent-upside down. He asked me later what was my first impression of him, and I said he reminded me of Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies. It was funny, it turned out we had met about 8 years earlier, when he visited his sister who had moved in next to us.

We spent the next day together, then my Mom was taken ill and we had to rush home. As we were rushing to break camp, he came to our camper door and asked for my phone number. I didn't want to give it to him because I had been hurt recently and was not ready for another boyfriend. Mom dragged herself out of the bed, and hanging onto the sink cabinet grabbed a pencil and paper and said, JUst give it to him.

He called me a couple days later, and we dated for a couple weeks. Then he broke the news to me that he would like to go on dating, but he wanted me to know he was not looking for marriage. I was 18, I told him I was not ready for that, either. 6 weeks later we were engaged and married almost a year from the date we met.

I should have stuck to my guns, it lasted 13 years and that was that.

One of my college roommates was breaking from the normal world and was working at Kmart and partying all the time. I would come to see her on the weekends and we would go out drinking. I was wasting time in the store one Saturday night when I met my future DH. I was sitting in a kids pool in the sporting goods area - he dragged me around the store in it (he was working in Sporting Goods). We will be married 14 years next Tuesday.

Soon after I returned from a year in Australia, my friends had me for dinner at their cottage in August and included a couple from one nearby. The woman asked my friend for my phone number in February, after asking if I was dating anyone steadily. She gave the number to her brother who called me.

We talked for three hours the first time he called. He took me to a wonderful restaurant on our first date and was so gentlemanly opening the car door and offering his arm to cross some icy patches.I was thrilled it wasn't the usual movie first date...yawn. He says he wanted to go out with me again because of my adventurous stories of Australia, like bouncing over the waves on a bow of a cruiseship bound for the northernmost tip (more like a tugboat). I think he married me thinking life was going to be like that...:lo

Within three months we were off to Portugal for our first trip of many.....though house and kid have slowed us down a bit for now, since we married that next year. It will be 18 years this June. And for a guy who called blindly and talked for so long, try and get him to answer the thing now!!!!!!!! :grin

Well he's not my hubby but we've known each other since 1972 as young teenagers! He had younger brothers that I babysat for (I'm 2 years older than he is) and we dated in high school until it was time for me to go off to college. He broke my heart when he said he wanted to date high school girls because I was so far away at school! Stupid me---I married somebody else after college and stayed that way for a miserable 18 years. Luckily I did get two fabulous sons and I wouldn't trade them away for those 18 years. The high school sweetheart and I had remained friends and after I was divorced it didn't take long for us to become sweethearts again. I always tell him I've loved him since he was 13 years old!! My boys think of him as a step father and I love him dearly. I believe there are wedding bells for us in the future as we've been shacked up together for about 4 years now and I sense a ring is in the cards!

K.
