We have been to Haines and went to the bald eagle preserve. I thought some of the most beautiful scenery was in and around Haines. It's very small so I didn't see too much to do there. It is worth seeing but not if you have to spend a lot of $$$ to get there. Haines was a port stop on our cruise.
On our very first cruise we did the 'float trip' on the large 'rafts' Sorry I don't remember the name of the excursion but it was it superb! Beautiful scenery and lots of eagles around
It was a very smooth ride not 'white water' rafting. I have a lower back problem and I was fine, there was also a pregnant lady in our raft
We took a ferry from Skagway to Haines and then a bus to the river.
I think we booked it through the cruiseline.
We were to Haines once. If you go to Haines make sure you do a tour other than the town tour. The town tour is very boring and really does not have much to see. There are tours that leave from Skagway by boat over to Haines. On these boat rides it is a good time to do a little whale watching. This is a good area for Humpbacks and we did see a few when we went to and from Haines.
