Diners, Drive-ins and Dives in Alaska

Tonight the Food Network is airing the Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives episode they filmed up here a few months ago. You will see a couple of our favorite restaurants reviewed. We have a friend that works at the Silver Gulch Brewery, we LOVE Big Daddy's barbeque and the Pagoda is our all time FAVE for Chinese food.

We thought it was funny they came up here before the snow fell, but had the local eateries decorate like it was Christmas for filming.

We hope you enjoy watching.

And no, we are not in it . . . . . .

Tobyn...are there any really Fine Dining top end establishments to eat where you live (aside from your place?) I am not casting aspersions upon your fine area but I know in my town about the best we can do is a local small, independent restaurant and it could never be classed as fine dining.....and neither can our many chain outlets....Boston Pizz is not a fine dining establishment!! It makes me laugh when people say "Wear to the (ship's) dining room what you would wear to a fine restaurant at home"! No wonder so many people arrive at the dining room in blue jeans.....they are the uniform here for and worn for "fine dining", weddings, funerals, birthday parties, and hay rides! :D

Just wondered????

Beryl . . . . There are a couple of restaurants that consider themselves 'Fine Dining', but up here, warm is more important than fashion. In any other area, one would dress nicer for these than other places. The Vallata, and Two Rivers Lodge are a couple of examples. At Two Rivers, you don't go there in a hurry, as it is a 'dining experience' that takes at LEAST two hours. There are others, but these are the ones that come to mind easily.

Judi, I will have to see if they have a repeat showing as I missed that show. I would have liked to see it.

Wow Tobyn...you are lucky....we dress for the warmth here too so that I understand :)! But still nothing that could be considered fine dining....even if you're in the restaurant for two hours....that is just slow service! There is no chef in this town that, in my opinion, could be considered excellent....well my DH does a better job than all the restaurant chefs and that I will attest to!!

There is one evening in town where you will have "fine dining"....it is a special holiday meal that is put on at our Rail Museum and it's black tie and that strictly limits the number of guests! There are very few who have the black tie and even fewer who want to pay the price! :D

We also love that show. It is on at the same time we tape CSI Miami so will look for it to be repeated this weekend.

Guy Fieri has been to Pittsburgh quite a few times.

BSea....you know Heidi?? :)

Heidi's is great for lunch....well okay for lunch.....in blue jeans! It used to be a very "special" spot...then they enlarged the restaurant. At about the same time Gottfriedt (sadly and tragically) passed away and things IMHO just began to slip. I still love Heidi and my favourite waitress in the world works there but I wish the food was just half as good as it used to be. We seldom go there these days :( ! I miss the "old" place and I wish I could patronize the "new" but the food just isn't the same quality anymore!!

Great show Tobyn I want a bowl of beer cheese soup with a twist for lunch today. So much good food--I just wish you all and the mini loaves had been there. Thought once saw Megahan . Thanks for sharing this with us.
