Cruise Snobs!

There are some cruise lines I enjoy more than others. I give most of my buisness to those cruise lines. I have a great time on them, and thus far have no reason to change my habits or custom. I suppose this DOES make me a cruise snob, but I'd never put someone down who had other tastes. To each their own, but...Joshua 24:15!

I have to admit that in 47 cruises we've been lucky and only come across a few people I would call 'cruise snobs'. For the most part, they seem to be far and few between because most people are enjoying themselves, want to have a good time, and enjoy meeting new people. The only time we ever really came across several 'cruise snobs' on any one cruise was when we did a 17-night cruise from Hong Kong to Beijing on the Oceania Nautica. That one particular cruise we seem to encounter several people that were very 'class' oriented and it appeared to us they were more interested in making sure they only associated with people of their own 'kind' than just relaxing and enjoying meeting everyone. They made us feel we were literally unwelcome in certain 'circles'. Never felt that way on any cruise at any time. Strange.

But we didn't let them ruin our vacation as we still enjoyed our voyage and some amazing ports, including Okinawa where we got to spend the day with our daughter. She's in the Navy and was stationed there for 6 months. Needless to say, she was ecstatic to have us there, if only for the day. And then we got to spend 5 days in Beijing, which was absolutely incredible!

As I always say, a cruise is what you make it. You can have a miserable time if you want, but you can also have a fabulous time if you don't let the little stuff ruin it. (And it's all little stuff.)

Was your daughter at the base in Naha? We lived in Kadena in 1970 when my husband was in the Navy. (Okinawa). I think Naha was about an hour from where we were.

I'm sorry about the people on that cruise. It sucks to be them.;)

She was stationed at Kadena, so we had to rent a car and drive (on the wrong side of the road) about 70 minutes each way to see her from Naha. (We were VERY thankful for GPS!!!)

Being so far away from her home (Jacksonville) and having to leave her 3-year old son and husband at home was tough enough. So for her to have family visiting, if only for a few hours, was awesome! She's scheduled to go back there in January for 7 months this time. Wish we could fly over and visit for a few days, but unfortunately our son is no longer working for United, so we don't see that happening this time, which is really disappointing as we know how tough it is being away from family. (I served a year in Vietnam, so I'm REALLY aware of how hard that is!)

She's been in for 9 years and is transferring to recruiting in order to have another child and hopefully make first class sooner. Needless to say, we're VERY proud of her!!

Wow I bought my groceries at Kadena. We actually lived in Kadena Circle. Please thank your daughter for her service! It indeed is hard to leave your family at home and live so far from home. My heart goes out to her to have to leave her baby behind. Also living in Okinawa, you really get an appreciation for the states! We have a lot of great memories of living there.

I have met some folks that I would most assuredly class as "snob". I don't allow them to affect my fun, my relaxation, nor my cruise experience. I don't look at shoes as I don't care what one may put on their feet. Not everyone can afford an expensive suit or dress. I'm there to enjoy myself. I have cruised with folks that look down on me because I choose to have fun and I truly don't care if another cruise passenger likes me or not. I am there for me, not them. If you choose not to associate with me, great. Stay away and don't try to push your ideals, thoughts and limitations on me. I will not push mine on you.

I am who I am and I am not going to change to please someone else for a few days on a cruise ship. That said, I do believe I behave appropriately in group settings and do not go out of my way to annoy others. . . . .

 Well said, Tobyn!!

"I am who I am," sounds an awful lot like what Popeye would say! And everybody loves Popeye.
