Cruise Snobs!

How do you deal with them and what experiences have you had?

I remember the very first Cruise Addicts meeting and I was enjoying meeting everyone. I met this one couple and in conversation I asked "What is your favorite cruise line?". They responded by saying "We only cruise celebrity?". As the conversation continued they reinterated that the OTHER lines just weren't good enough for them and as their noses looked to the sky.. I was like "I enjoy all cruises.."... they seemed to leave the meeting earlier than some others. How about you? Have you met Cruise Snobs? Do you know some? Are you one? lol

Yes, we've met a few over the years - haven't we all? Don't really know any personally - would rather not associate with that type.

Umm, I remember years ago being so excited about going on our very first cruise "The Carnival Triumph". Someone said " Carnival was a K-mart level cruise" ( Walmart wasn't around then. LOL)

Let me add, that we had a wonderful cruise. We have cruised Carnival, RCl, Princess and Holland.

Enjoyed them all.

Never bothers me - I know everyone has an opinion and I enjoy hearing about their opinion -- but I know what I like! lol

I know a lot of folks bash Carnival - I have never had a bad trip anywhere - - so parts I could take or leave - but live is what you make of it and I choose to make it good!

I've met a lot of people who have strong opinions about one cruise line or another (good and/or bad), Like Donna said a lot have so much negative to say about Carnival but have never cruised on the line. I hear a lot of negative about NCL also but I would never bash them as I have not had the opportunity to try the line yet. Bottom line, I do't let other people's opinions bother me. I have cruised Carnival, Princess, RCI and Celebrity and I like them all equally.

To a minor degree, I had to be snobbish when Oscar was alive. Only certain cruise lines could provide his physical needs. After his death I have enjoyed all cruise lines. To me, any cruise is a good cruise.

How on earth does it make someone a snob because they only choose to cruise one cruise line?? There may be very good reasons for them to do so that you no nothing about. Gramma Ann is an example of that...and no Ann, you are not a snob!

In the past I have cruised Premier, Royal Cruise Line (not RCL), Holland America and Princess. I prefer to cruise Princess. They seem to be the best fit for me and to date I have not been tempted to change to any of the other major cruise lines. If I do change I will probably "upgrade" my cruisline to Crystal, RSSC, or Oceania. Does this make me a snob? Probably in the eyes of some.

I live in a very nice home. I wear what I believe are nice and appropriate clothes. I behave (or try to) in a kind manner to people that I encounter in my daily life. We drive a wonderful vehicle...and yes, we upgraded it earlier than we normally would because they quit manufacturing this particular model and we wanted the last of the line. We eat well and I love to dine in good restaurants. I love good wine and am appalled by what some people consider "good" wine! I believe that parents should "parent" children. I like to read and I enjoy a lively debate about ideas with others. I listen to the news and try to be aware of what is happening in the world and not "just in my own neighbourhood"

I do not like to be around unruly children...or adults.
I do not like people who flout rules.
I do not like to see spelling and grammar errors in important written work.
I do not like greed.
I do not like people wearing their pyjamas to restaurants. (when did this become acceptable?)
I do not like to see bum creases... whether they are sitting, standing or bending.
I do not like people who make judgements about others based on colour, gender, politics, religion or bank accounts.

Wikipedia describes a snob as " a person who believes in the existence of an equation between status and human worth."

If I were to refuse to associate with my wonderful friends who only cruise Carnival I guess you could call me a snob.
If I were to refuse to associate with other dear friends because they have not had the opportunities I have had to travel I guess you might call me a snob.
If I didn't love my friend who drives around in an old beater perhaps you might call me a snob.
If I didn't enjoy being with some friends that don't live in as big a home as I do you could call me a snob.
...and on and on! The truth is that I have more of some things than other people I know. They have more of some things than I have. I love them all ..not because of what they have but rather for who they are. I believe that you can find something worthwhile in pretty much everyone you meet. To meet someone once and from a single, short conversation label them as snob just seems wrong to me!

Snobs I won't waste my time on them! Princess is still my favorite, but I don't think I would turn down a free cruise on any of them.

Well said Beryl!! :thankyou:

Its great to hear everyones opinions. Some people are very judgemental to the point of judging others by the type of ship they take or even the type of Car or Home they live in and not who they are as people. Sad but, true.

I have to say we have encountered a few people who seem to be snobs on cruises we have been on but I just don't really pay much attention to them. I have seen some treat the waiters really bad when most of these workers try so hard to please the passengers.

I have sailed mostly on Celebrity but also with Princess & HAL. We have not been able to set sail as often as many of you but if I could I would sail on all the different cruise lines. I think I would be happy on any ship but I have to have a balcony so I can enjoy the morning sunrise as well as late nights taking in the ocean that I love. Hope that doesn't make me a snob

I cruised on the Noordam on my first cruise many years ago. We used a local travel agent and was clueless about dress rules. My travel agent said to wear a dress I would wear to church to formal night on the ship. I forgot my dress shoes when packing so had to wear tennis shoes to dinner. I had several people look at me in disgust when I showed up in my dress. I decided then I did not know those people and their opinion meant nothing to me and I enjoyed my meal. Don't let anyone steal your joy.

Thanks Seamom! I'm just really not into judging other people. Not everyone has the same chain of events in their life. I learned a long time ago it is impossible to make everyone happy so I do the best I can and not worry about it. I don't worry about things I have no control over. It is wasted time.
I see a mud puddle and go around it. My grandson things it is great to get into. It's all relative. ;)

I have learned that my standards and opinions are just that...they're mine. I don't impose them on others. Likewise, I prefer that others keep their own to themselves... Makes for polite interaction.
That being said, we only have sailed on RCI because we are familiar with them. Never had a bad cruise.

I am running into this now as certain family members and friends won't even consider joining us on our 25th anniversary cruise due solely to the line we selected.

Many of these people cruise frequently, so it is not an issue of money, time, or fear of seasickness. (I totally get that.) Coming out and saying that they would rather not sail with you than "tolerate" a cruise line for 7 nights is rather hurtful and the epitome of snobbiness.

I'm so sorry. Go on your cruise and have a great time! Don't let them steal your joy.
