Ken Rush is part of the Take Out Team, hence he is now on the MA and will also take out the JW next spring. I sailed with him this year on the SR inaugural and last year on the BR and NV.

He's OK as a CD but I didn't find him to be anything special. I sailed with him last year on the Navigator.

Hi,

Sorry to jump in here, but I kind of wondered the same thing for my Mariner sailing. I'll be on the ships third time out of the port and this is my first time on Royal Caribbean so I am trying to understand what ya'll are talking about. I mean, I know what a cruise director does and all, but now I am wondering how long Ken will be doing this job on the Mariner. Will someone else be taking over his postion later this year? I guess I am asking what exactly does "Take Out Team" mean and how does it work?

Thanks,
Mmketeer...Mariner, Nov.30th

Mmketeer,
Ken Rush usually stays onboard during the first months on a new ship.
The Take Out Team consists of a lot of staff members in key positions, like the Hotel Director, Food and Beverage Manager, Chief Housekeeper, Bar Manager, Executive Chef, Chief Purser, Maitre´d and so on. They are all very experienced and have been on many new ships before and after delivery. Those of you who have sailed on any of the first cruises during the last few years will perhaps recognize names like Bob Tavadia, Jean Claude Salvadero, Patrick Roberts, Errol Sandanha, Helga Finnsdottir, just to name a few. You will also find experienced people as cabin stewards, dining room waiters, bar tenders etc. in the team. Like the CD, they stay onboard for some weeks or perhaps a couple of months, depending on how much guidance the new staff and crew need.

Hi Roland,

Yup, thanks I get it now. It does make perfect sense now and it's nice to see their well be so many experinced folks on board. I for some reason just assumed everyone would be "green". What a relief....LOL!

Hi Mmketeer,
Yes it does make sense. On a maiden voyage not many years ago, there were too many "greens" with too little guidance and supervision. I felt sorry for the newcomers trying to do their best, but I know that many of my fellow passengers considered the cruise a disaster. However, RCI has learnt their lesson and nowadays all inaugural cruises have been really smooth and with excellent service.
I know you will enjoy the MA and some of the minor changes interiorwise compared to the NV. She is a very beautiful ship and next Wednesday is delivery date.

My family sailed the Explorer when Ken was the cruise director and we really enjoyed him. Not to mention that he is extremely handsome :) that was just a bonus. He is fun, thinking you'll definitely like him.
