Just booked this for an 11 night Mexico cruise over New Years. The only experience I have with Celebrity is on the Zenith to Bermuda. We usually cruise on Princess or Royal Caribbean, so I am wondering what the good and bad opinions are on the Mercury.

My wife, two son and I traveled on her in January and we just loved her. The ship was clean and the service was great. Very relaxing ship to travel on. Cabins had plenty of space and the food was wonderful. I would travel on her again in a heartbeat.

Our first cruise was on the Mercury and we have been 'hooked' ever since, we loved it :grin

Great choice

Very nice ship and staff would travel on her again anytime.

Hi Citygirl,

We are also on this sailing and really looking forward to it. I've wanted to do a New Year's sailing for many years, but avoided them because of the number of children reported to be onboard during the holidays. This adults-only sailing should be wonderful!!

There are a large group of us on this sailing that are chatting on the Cruise Critic message board. Please join us. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/2/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=927093444&f=9243096327&m=3573050607

There is also a special website for this cruise with much information and pictures.

Hope to talk with you soon.

It was our first cruise as well and got us hooked BIG TIME!!! It's a beautiful ship, very clean, excellent service, and food to die for.

Have sailed on the Mercury two times, the Caribbean and Round the Cape of South America. Both times, the staff have been very accomodating. Food was good and the ship spotless.

One thing about this class of ship I do not like is the spa area, to use the thalosatheropy pool, you have to pay, on the Millennium class ships, you don't. But this is certainly not something to spoil a cruise, at least for me.

Just got back from the Mercury yesterday. Third time in the last 23 months. We were surprised on the second cruise that we were recognized by some of the crew. We were absolutely amazed that on this latest trip (16 months later) we were again recognized by several crew members. (We really are not boisterous or obtrusive). The ship is constantly being cleaned, vacuumed and polish. The care, concern and courtesy of the crew members make a cruise on this ship very special.

Loved it! We will never think of saling with Royal Carib again. Same pricing, and Celebrity has so much more to offer!

She was built in Germany, very solid construction. The design is different than other companies. They do not use the great atriums like Prinecess, Carnival, and RCI. Also they support many artists. (by the looks of things, Struggling artists HE HE) Makes them seperate from the rest of the crowd.

If I had the choice I woud pick her over the new M-class that is built in France with the RCI stuff)

Better service
Better Food
Quality construction
More Class

I agree with Aaren. Mercury was made when Celebrity was still being creative with ships. Compare her spaces with Century, different foyer, dining room, Rendezvous, nightclub, theater, almost all major public areas are different. What's similar? Layout. The Mercury is daring and creative, nice combo of grand and intimate areas. Compared with Galaxy only the stairwells are similar, otherwise, both are their own ships though they are almost identical from the exterior.

Quality of German ships is better than French made Millennium. And Millennium ships, same foyers, same dining rooms, same Rendezvous, same Covas, Celebrity creativity only shown in the different specialty restaurants. Otherwise, public areas follow the dull carbon copy route with different colors and patterns of other lines. Some areas, like the thellasotherapy solarium area and photo areas and even the shopping areas are much too similar to RCI ships.

Mercury, for me, is the last real Celebrity ship.

What we noticed on the Mercury, other than what all the others have stated, is the spaciousness on-board. The cruise we were on was a complete sell-out, yet WHERE were all the people. It was very pleasant.............one could get a seat anywhere you went at anytime of day.......nothing was crowded. Just an excellent ship and staff!!!
