Can my 20 year old son consume alcohol on cruise?

hey all...just a quick question reagarding if my 20 year old son and his same age girlfriend can legally drink alcohol on the cruise. We're booked for Freedom o/t Seas, leaving Dec. 20th for 7 days. Looking at the brochure book though, there is an age limit of 21. Can we sign a waiver as mentioned in the book or is that just for the exempted departure countries ie: Europe, S. America.

Sorry...the drinking age onboard is 21 unless you are sailing from a European port...no waiver's available from us ports...

Thanks. Not the he'd be doing it all day (and night) but I have no issues with him having a drink with his meal. Here in Canada, legal age to drink is 19. I like to think we've raised a responsible kid and let him enjoy his vacation as an adult.

I don't think the waiters will be asking for your son's age. They want their tips.
Most likely you will be paying for the drinks with your ship card anyway.

Since it is a custom in your country I don't think the ships will mind. If I was his mother I would be sad if my son could not have at least one drink on the ship for dinner time.

I wouldn't count on the cruise line "not minding"....they are getting very strick lately regarding acohol...

Pretty sad if you got sad cuz your son couldnt have a drink...........

Its the policy and I wouldn't dare risking getting any wait staff in trouble for the sake of a drink to an under aged passenger.


If the son has to have a drink,get him one and let him drink it in the cabin.

Yes,it has changed......they no longer have the waiver(except for cruises in Europe and SoAmerica)


Effective as of all sailings commencing on or after July 28, 2006, the minimum drinking age for all alcoholic beverages on all Royal Caribbean International ships is 21.

On cruises departing from European and South American countries, where the legal drinking age is typically lower than 21, a parent who is sailing with his or her son(s) and/or daughter(s) who is between the ages of 18 to 20, may sign a waiver allowing the 18 to 20 year old to consume alcoholic beverages. Please note: Waivers will be provided to parents upon check-in.

The 18- to 20 year-old must agree to comply with Royal Caribbean's policies, including among other things, agreeing to not provide alcoholic beverages to any other person, regardless of age. Restrictions apply, and this policy is subject to change without notice.

I think the 21 year old drinking age is ridiculous myself, but it is the law. Just a stupid one.
