New York City is filled to the brim with high profile chefs. Everyone from Food Network stars to major restaurateurs want a crack at the Big Apple. But with all of these amazing places to eat, where should you go? What's affordable? Which restaurant has the meal that will leave you speechless? We've picked the 5 best New York City celeb chef restaurants that will make both you and your wallet smile.
Brasserie Les Halles
This French eatery was opened by Travel Channel adventurer Anthony Bourdain and has since seen great success in locations both Downtown and on Park Avenue. With a large wines and cocktails menu, brunch and even menus for children, there's something for everyone here; don't let the Parisian name scare you away. Exotic plates with crispy duck and Moroccan lamb are offset by more casual meals of grilled veggies and smoked salmon. Don't leave without trying the Crepe Suzette, a classic French dessert with Grand Marnier.
Otto Enoteca Pizzeria
Chef Mario Batali has several fabulous restaurants in New York City like Babbo and Del Posto, but this is argued as his best and most affordable. Otto, as it's known to his fans, is an upscale pizzeria with a distinctly Italian flare, all meat scales and train terminal timetables for decor. If you're in the mood for a quick meal, grab a wine at the bar and have a seat for one of 18 styles of freshly made pizza. There's Prosciutto Arugula, Balsamic Onion and Goat Cheese and even the old favorite, Pepperoni. Be sure to follow up with Olive Oil Coppetta, an olive oil gelato with lime curd.
'wichcraft
This cozy sandwich shop is the neighborhood offshoot of Craftsteak, now known as Colicchio & Sons of James Beard 2010 award winner and Bravo TV Top Chef Tom Colicchio. The same care that goes into Colicchio & Son's $20 entrees applies to 'wichcraft's humble but delicious sandwiches. Chopped chickpeas with olives and arugula, smoked ham and cheddar, shrimp salad with chorizo and more line the menu of this these tiny shops and kiosks. Grab a sandwich and a fresh brewed coffee at the 42nd Street kiosk for a walk through Bryant Park.
Mesa Grill
As Iron Chef Bobby Flay's landmark restaurant, Mesa Grill is always packed - and always delicious. Enjoy some seriously Tex-Mex bites like the Sixteen Spice Chicken Salad and Chipotle Glazed Ribeye. Or for a more luxurious group dining experience, try out the three course private dining menu which can be offered on Mesa Grill's amazing balcony overlooking the restaurant. The spicy menu and rich celeb chef pedigree makes this one of New York City's best restaurants.
Momofuku Milk Bar
From Chef David Chang, this retail priced offshoot of Momofuku Noodle Bar is sized and priced just right for lunchtime snacking. A full menu of cookies and pies is complimented with milkshakes, local stout and Stumptown coffee for the ultimate trendy New York City dining experience. Grab some croissants, a grasshopper pie or a pork bun in a cute Momofuku tote bag and spend your free time exploring it's East Village neighborhood.
