air cleaners

I need some input from all of you. My dd, the one who just had the baby, is going to be coming up to visit us at the end of the month. My dh (very dumb of him) still smokes and the only place he smokes is in our bedroom (he is hooked up to his dialysis machine for 9 to 10 hours at a time). I need to buy a air cleaner that will clean the smoke out of the air. Does anyone have any experience with air cleaners?

We have them at work they are made by Motorolla but I don't know the model......check out the Motorolla site....they do a good job. The ones we have stand about 3 feet tall......

The other place that you can google is Bed, Bath and Beyond. I know I have seen them there but have no real experience with them.

I've had some from the Sharper Image, but found they were of little use. I also just heard that the manufactures of some are in deep doodoo over their claims. You might do better by keeping his door closed and having a strong window exhaust fan.

I used the Ionic Breeze from Sharper Image, hubby got it for me,it worked less than a year(for my asthma) and I dont think it helped much either, and supposed to be top end,so maybe Ruby is right, when my son comes over who smokes(most of the times he goes outside)but when he and John are in the bar room I just open the window, and refresh the room when he is gone.

Have tried several 'cleaners' over the years to clean the air after guests. Non have been successful and I think they are a waste of money! If you do buy one be sure that you can return if they do not work.Les

Thanks everyone, I have been researching and I have come to the same conclusion that opening windows and using a fan to get the smoke out is the best thing. With a baby the smell won't do anything to its lungs but the actual smoke in the air is what will do it. My dd doesn't like the smell but I will just use air fresheners to make it smell better.

Again, thanks to everyone!

actually air fresheners are under investigation too.Something about formadahide and other toxic chemicals.one unpronounceable item starts with a "p" and another starts with a "t". please google "air freshener health" You might want to add baby to the search.
