Who knows something on unwritten rules onboard?

HI,

I am a student of cruise tourism and need help with some questions concerning my BA thesis.
The topic is "Unwritten rules on board". Unwritten rules refers to all rules that everyone knows and adheres to, but noone talks about and are not written.

1. What unwritten rules exist on board (crew, captain, pax)?
2. What written rules are there on board? Which are internationally the same and which are company specific?

Would be grateful for good answers.

I am not the type of person to tell my private secrets to unwritten rules onboard. Once you make some unwritten rule public then everybody wants what I am getting onboard. When everybody finds out then the ships will make rules.

I have many secrets that I only share with my cruiser friends.

For example: I once went on a land trip with a group of singles. We paid a regular price but because I gave the Hotel Manager a Hollywood t-shirt and I made friends with our tour guide.... My roomie and I got a penthouse suite. We both kept the secret because we knew that some of the other singles would want the same deal we got.

Those deals happen on ships too for different reasons. They are called the upgrade faires or Lady Luck. Giving them a Hollywood t-shirt would not work on a ship to get an upgrade.

Presently I have a great ship secret that I have only told one cruiser friend. I don't plan to make it public either.

Cruiselines read what we have to say so they would right away make some new rules that would stop the unwritten rules. Sorry....
