Water/Food in Cozumel/Costa Maya okay to eat/drink?

Going to Cozumel and Costa Maya in June........Is it okay to eat at the restaurants in both places? We've been to Cancun many times and we know that salads and seafood (they rinse it wih the tap water) are off limits in town, so is it the same at these locations? Bottled water is always plentiful, so we are okay with that..........thanks!

I am sure that if it was not a safe place to be the cruise lines will stop going there. (that is why St Croix is no longer a port stop for any cruise ship) use your common sense and you will be fine.

We had a late lunch at Pancho's Backyard in Cozumel. We were out in the sun all day, and I was absolutely parched. They didn't have bottled water, but assured me that the water was ok because they had a filtration/purification system. I was a little leary at first, but I decided to trust the waiter, and I was fine after drinking the water. I think a lot of the popular places have the filtration sustems nowadays.

Well I've been to Cozumel a few times. Everytime we ate at restaurants on the pier, fat tuesdays and the one across the street waterside. We've also drank the local beer, and of course the frozen thingys (ICE). On excursion, now it's been a year, but I think it was called playa sol? and a paradise island excursion, both times eatinng the local food, ICE, and local beer.

Never had a problem. Imagine what would happen to their economy if a food epidemic broke out on any port or excursion? The cruise ships and all thier $$ would possibly go elsewhere. so I personally consider this a good motivation.

But there really are no guarentees I guess. Just sharing that we've done just fine. Would eat there again if some one would just donate some cruise $$ my way LOL. oh well, have a GREAT time, oh heck you WILL!

If you have ever been to Cancun, you know that you drink BOTTLED water.....its not an "epidemic", its the WAY THE WATER IS THERE........most of the resorts have purified water, but the restaurants don't..doesn't bother the people that live there, only some of those from other places.

we just got back from cozumel (4th trip) and most restuarants have signs/or menus notices saying they have apurification system for their water. have never had any problems in cozumel (or cancun, jamaica, caymans, st thomas).

thanks sophie!!!!!!!!! In cancun they also have the signs in front of the restaurants that have purified water, and I COMPLETELY forgot that!
