Thought this would interest you. This is cruising on the old canal system, in England, that used to be the way goods were delivered to the plants that were built on the side of the canal.I still remember when I was young seeing horses pull the barges and many times I helped push open the locks to allow the barges through! This is just one little section of a countywide canal system and I was amazed how the canals have all been re-opened and cleaned up to make it very popular for pleasure cruising.

Horses pulling barges!

Now there is a solution to the fuel crisis!!!! Probably need long ropes and lots of horses!!!

As we travelled by train from Manchester to London last year, the canals wound under the train tracks back and forth and alongside with tons of these colourful and some beautifully flower adorned barges. A friend of mine did this and though it looks easy proved tricky in spots but a barrel of laughs.
