Good morning folks,

Fay is still dumping rain on the southeast. Gustav became a hurricane. (More on Gustav in the Community Q & A Forum.)

Fay Rains Continue

South

Fay's rainfall will continue to soak the Southeast today.

The good news is that today should be the heaviest rain in the core of the drought from northeastern Georgia into western North Carolina.

The bad news is that an isolated tornado or two is possible over much of Georgia, eastern Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and possibly into South Carolina.

Fay's remnant low pressure center will move northward through the Tennessee Valley into the Central Appalachians over the next couple of days, spreading the chance of rain through the Carolinas into Virginia through Thursday.

Farther west in the Southern Plains, high temperatures will soar well into the 90s for the remainder of the work week, with a few areas breaking 100.

Isolated thunderstorms will make a return to the Southeast and parts of Texas by the weekend.

Highs today will range from the low 70s in the Southern Appalachians to near 100 in the Red River Valley.

Midwest

Windy and stormy weather is expected in the portions of the Northern Plains today as a cold front moves out of the Rockies and Northern High Plains.

Storms are expected to develop later this afternoon, with a few of these storms producing large hail and damaging wind.

This frontal boundary will bring a chance of rain to the Upper Mississippi Valley tomorrow and Thursday, and the western Great Lakes on Thursday before beginning to dissipate.

A few showers in the Ohio Valley are possible from this front late in the week.

In the Ohio Valley today and tomorrow, moisture from Fay will begin to impact the region with some locally heavy downpours possible, particularly over eastern Kentucky and southeastern Ohio.

Highs today will range from the mid 70s near Lake Superior and in eastern Kentucky to the mid 90s in the Nebraska Panhandle.

West

Windy conditions are also expected over much of the West brought about by the departing front moving out of the Plains and high pressure building into the Pacific Northwest.

The combination of low humidity values and gusty winds will lead to a high fire danger over portions of the West.

Temperatures behind the front will be markedly cooler in the High Plains today after several record highs on Monday.

Moisture being drawn up from former Tropical Storm Julio will bring a chance of rain and a few thunderstorms to the Four Corners region.

A weaker system will move into the Pacific Northwest tomorrow bringing another chance of rain before it moves into Canada.

Highs today will range from the 40s near Glacier National Park to the 100s in the Lower Colorado Valley.

Northeast

Much of the Northeast will have a beautiful late August day with abundant sunshine and average to below average high temperatures.

The exception is in West Virginia, where moisture from Fay will begin to move in today.

This moisture will spread northward over the next several days bringing more rain through the weekend as the moisture moves through.

Highs today will generally be in the 70s, with some 60s possible in northern Maine.

Good morning Charles. We have sunshine again this morning, and the furbabies are delighted. The squirrels are in the yard, and Harley and Chloe are in their glory.
