Does anyone here have the Stainless kitchen trash can that works with the motion sensor? They have one on sale at Costco and I'm thinking of ordering one. I'm just curious about how the motion sensor works, and if my dog will learn to open it? Anyone have one of these??

I bought one with a sensor as a gift for a friend who requested it as a holiday gift. She and her DH love it, I HATE it. Every time you move past it, it automatically opens. It would drive me insane.

That's what I was wondering, Mary Ann....but I plan to put it in a corner where no one would be walking by. Hopefully that would work...

But if Charlie figures it out, then I'm in trouble :dizzy

Reggae - if Charlie is half as smart as Pucci, he'll figure it out and you'll be in BIG trouble. You simply need to be "near" it for the sensor to pick up and open the trashcan for you.

as stated.. the walking even near it would annoy me. and is this ran by batteries? if so, then they will be replaced often.
We have one similar to this.

all it takes is a foot on the control, it closes slowly, and not with a snap.
It is easy to empty. We bought ours at "Bed Bath and Beyond"..

whatever one you chose to buy.. may I offer a suggestion?
do not buy the one that looks like ours, but it opens on the narrow end, and not on the wider end.
I see these all the time in stores, and I imagine the person going to empty things and then realize they have to fold it very narrow to get it into the opening without spilling stuff.

Well, I went ahead and ordered the dang thing...but I can take it back at the store if it doesn't behave properly. (and yes, it is the one that opens on the narrow end. I didn't consider that, Red) So it may be going back?

here's a photo

It looks very nice, and it looks round in shape, so the opening may not be a problem at all.

but if you look at the photo I posted, think about it turned narrow side facing you, and then opening that way.. you can see that it would give you a small area to work with. I figure that if the dustpan can not be emptied into it without spilling stuff over the side.. it is too small :lol

I think it is a very nice gift, and I am sure they will love it.

They have one just like that Reggae at the nail shop I go to and it stopped working not long after the shop opened....but then maybe they haven't replaced the batteries =huh

I have one just like Red's, got it at BBB too and I LOVE it. Expensive but WELL worth it. The lid kind sits down in a slight recess that Buck can't nose it open ;)
