TRANSFER FEES

My TA is charging us $35.00 per person for transportation from NO airport to hotel, from hotel to port and when we return from the cruise, from cruise ship to airport. Is this a good price? What is the average cost of transportation?

Yes, it is a good price. However, some hotels provide free parking (if you were driving) and free shuttle to and from the pier. You may want to check a few hotels for this and pay only for the ride to and from the airport. Of course, you are going straight to the airport from the pier, so I do not know how the hotels (or if they) help with this. Some people stay a day before and a day afterwards and that is how they get the free shuttle back to the hotel. Anyway, instead of all the hassle, just pay the fee. yes, cruisegary is right, not a bad price overall.

ps. I thought and have heard that Carnival often provides airport shuttles to and from the ship. In fact, when I had that sandbar problem and was flown back, there were carnival personnel there to shuttle people. May want to consult carnival.

Thanks so much for your responses. I will definitely check with Carnival. I didn't think $35.00 was a bad price, but if Carnival or our hotel is providing free transportation, that is money saved! Thanks again!

I know at the port in Tampa if you stay at the Holiday Inn , now Ashley and maybe some other hotels, they will charge you $7a day to keep your car there and shuttle you free to the port and pick you up for free. They also have a service that if you are on a long cruise you can keep your car there for up to a month for a flat $49 fee.

The NO airport is in Kenner, LA, which is a suburb of NO, and is about 25 miles from the pier. I think that $35.00 pp r/t (including hotel) is a pretty good deal, and is most likely a Carnival transfer, if you booked your pre-night hotel through Carnival. I once paid $30.00 for a taxi from the airport just to my hotel on Canal St....one way.

Once again, I was just trying to help save a little pocket change for our op. If that can't be done, then YES, what diverdiver says is absolutely true. I live in the area and know that at one time a shuttle cost $10.00 one way. (I say - at one time because that was quite awhile ago and since I live here, I really don't have a use for going to the airport.)

I will definitely "investigate". We already have reservations at the Hilton Riverside, so I will check to see if they provide any transportation. I think the $35.00 fee is looking better and better.

Coffeecups ... this will be my first time visiting New Orleans and I can't wait to try the famous "beignets" (sp?). I went online to see what they looked like and they look VERY DELICIOUS!! Thanks again to all for your responses.

My biggest problem living in this area is FOOD. Can't get enough of the so many good choices. It's amazing in the N.O. area that everything seems to revolve around food (or a party). I guess the carnival ships are really a floating new orleans for my stomach. lol

I hope enjoy the beignets and any thing else you may eat here.

I guess it's a good thing that I'm not living in New Orleans. I'm trying to lose a few pounds before I get there so I can gain it all back on the cruise in August! It will be my first 7 day cruise and I plan to have a great time enjoying all the food!

I'll make sure I start out with the beignets before I board the ship!
