Jacquie...I love Keali'i Reichel too....and yes, he is a kumu hula....A kumu hula is someone who has been found qualified by another kumu to teach the techniques and traditions of the dance....clearly excelling in this art.

Sorry people...I know I'm not on this cruise but if Hawaii is in the title I have to check it out !

One of my favourite Hawaiian voices is that of Alfred Apaka (1919-1960). I purchased several of his albums following my first trip to Hawaii and I about wore them out with the playing!! I am so jealous because I know that Mary Ann met him live and in person!! His statue stands at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort and Spa on Waikiki Beach.

And I don't think we should forget to mention Israel "IZ" Kaʻanoʻi Kamakawiwoʻole. His music speaks to my soul and the video of White Sandy Beach always makes me laugh out loud at the end...watch for it!

I can think of no better way to spend the time waiting to visit these wonderful islands than reading their history and listening to their music...all of it from early chants to Hapa Haole! Prepare to be embraced by the spirit of Aloha!
