A pattern more like September

Northeast

Unsettled conditions will remain over the Northeastern States today.

An upper-level trough will continue to allow disturbances through the region. This, combined with the cooler air aloft, will allow for scattered showers and thunderstorms to continue today.

A few strong thunderstorms will be capable of producing some small hail, especially over southern New England, and an isolated severe thunderstorm with locally damaging winds cannot be ruled out over eastern New England.

The exception will be over the southern Mid-Atlantic, further away from these disturbances. Here, partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies will prevail, along with near average temperatures.

This weekend will continue to see unsettled conditions over the New England States, as this upper-level trough holds over the area.

Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms can be expected, mainly over northern New England, while partly cloudy skies prevail over the remainder of the northeastern States.

High temperatures will remain cool this weekend, with readings running 5 to 10 degrees below average some locations.

South

Big changes are headed for parts of the Southeastern States.

A cold front will continue to push south today, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms to mainly the Gulf Coastal areas, and Florida.

Locally heavy downpours will accompany these thunderstorms, and an isolated severe thunderstorm with locally damaging winds cannot be ruled out.

The changes will come with a high pressure building south across the Tennessee Valley, into parts of the Deep South and Southeastern States today; less humid, and cooler conditions can be expected.

This high pressure will build to the Gulf Coastal areas for this weekend, allowing this cooler, dry air to spill south, and ending the chance for thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the western end of this cold front will stall out over the southern Plains and northern Texas, keeping scattered thunderstorms in the forecast through the weekend.

Midwest

Generally, comfortable conditions will dominate the Midwest.

With high pressure dominating the western Great Lakes, Midwest, and most of the Plains, expect mainly sunny skies, low humidity, and comfortable temperatures for today.

The exception will be over the Dakotas, where a weak upper-level disturbance will trigger a few isolated thunderstorms today.

This weekend will feature some changes for the recent tranquil pattern.

A weather disturbance will bring a few thunderstorms into parts of the Midwest and Lower Great Lakes on Saturday, while the Ohio valley remains dry.

Scattered thunderstorms will increase over the central Plains both Saturday and Sunday, as a stationary front begins to rebound north as a warm front.

Temperatures through the weekend will generally be at, to slightly below average over the Midwest and Plains.

West

Low pressure aloft and a cold front will sweep across western Canada and the Northwest this weekend.

Ahead of the front, high temperatures will be above average in the 90s, but behind the front, areas including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and western Montana will turn much cooler.

A few thunderstorms will dot the Northwest, but be more numerous in the Rockies today.

Western Washington may see a few showers on Saturday.

Monsoon moisture will hold across the Southwest with thunderstorms more prevalent over the Four Corners states.

A few thunderstorms will extend westward into eastern Nevada and interior Southern California, as well.
