Taking mini-bottles on board

OK last time I went on a cruise (2004 w/Costa) we bought a bunch of those mini or airline bottles at our first port for around $1.00 each and were able to take them back to our room no question. When security checked our bags they even looked inside and saw them and said nothing. My folks had even bought a large bottle of something and they took that but left the mini's. Was this a Costa thing or is it the norm.

From the Princess website...

We kindly request that you do not bring alcoholic beverages (other than wine and/or champagne) onboard for consumption. Alcoholic beverages that are purchased duty free from the ship's gift shop or at ports of call will be collected for safekeeping and delivered to your stateroom on the last day of the voyage. A member of our Security Staff will be at the gangway to assist with the storage of your alcoholic beverage purchases.

I'm not sure whether they care that the alcohol is in large or small bottles...they ask that you don't bring it onboard! I'm sure there are many people that do...just be aware, and don't be surprised if it is confiscated and "returned the last day of the voyage"!

Okay, maybe this is just me, and I'll probably get pounded for saying it - but after reading the same topic forever and ever, I always wonder....
Geez, are people really that CHEAP? IMHO if you can't afford to take a vacation without resorting to smuggling alcohol aboard, you can't afford the cruise. If they didn't have free food, people would probably be smuggling Whoppers on board.

Like I said, maybe it's just me, but I'd rather follow the rules than be humiliated trying to BYOB....okay, everyone can yell at me now.

:p

=yeah I am as you.. but then again I DO bring wine and champagne,It's *ALLOWED*.on Princess.it's one of the nicer options I think Princess has... and so I bring my cheap plastic Mingo wine goblets and we have a sailaway toast, and on the occasion.. I pour a glass of wine ;dressing for our PM meal..
AND if YOU do want to BUY liquor you can..go to the Princess site and "gift yourself" with a "..package".. delivered to your cabin stateroom!!
no matter how many years I've cruised..we STILL see this..=shrug to each their own.. but it makes me wonder.. sigh whatever floats their ship.. JMHO.. but it tends to drive me nuts!!....oh well...Joanne

=lolgang I'm with you Connie.....but, a lot of people seem to want to bring booze onboard....I always tell them the same thing....Princess says no but do what you want and be prepared to get annoyed if your booze is confiscated!

I'm also with Cutes! We always bring a couple of bottles of wine aboard...that is permitted and it is nice to have a glass of wine handy while you are getting dressed for dinner.

I said it to someone quite recently...."a lot of these questions are asked with the poster knowing full well what the answer is"....they are just looking for justification to go ahead and flout the "rules" or "suggestions" of their host.

I guess it's because I rarely drink in my cabin, as I'm alone...usually....=tempted. Plus, no big savings, same price. And I often "gift" myself with mini binoculars, champagne, flowers, etc. After all, if you're not good to yourself, who will be? I love the mini binoculars on Celeb. $12 and you don't have to pack anything...the CC cabins come with them already. I have about 6 pair around here somewhere....

Speaking of booze, I FINALLY have a day off tomorrow, so I'm going to get ready to hit happy hour. First time out in MONTHS. I love what I do, but working 7 days a week for a year is starting to take a toll on this old broad.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE

=love =hug

We just returned from sailing on the Crown Princess and we each packed a bottle of wine. It states in their cruise kit that each passenger is allowed to bring one bottle of wine or champagne each, which I think is fair. Our cabin steward even supplied wine classes for us.

I'm one of those Smugglers, but it isn't about being cheap. The ship gets pleanty of my $$ for cocktails. For me it is more about convenience of being able to fix a drink once in a while to relax and enjoy in the peace and quiet of our cabin without having to run out in to the crowds to one of the bars. Not that I mind crowds and bars, it is a cruise after all. I live alone so I'm not used to having a lot of people around 24/7. While I like the fun and excitement on the ship it is nice to get away from it once in a while.

As Beryl said, I know the rules and if I ever do get it confiscated I will not be complaining.

:cheers

Actually Princess is one of the last of the breed, the brochures and website say that you can take wine or champagne but no liquor on board, our last cruise in September we took several bottles of champagne on board at embarkation in LA and then picked up a few more at our first stop in Puerto Vallarta from the Wally World across the street, no problem with the quantities. but they will get excited over big bottles of liquor.

We would never even do this! Gosh! That's about like taking a drink to dinner at a restaurant at home!

Can't understand why anyone would go to all of the trouble to do this ...... =huh

Smugling liquor. Well ... it can be done. All luggage, including carry-ons, is X-rayed and (supposedly) liquor or beer is consfiscated and returned on the last night. Wine is OK. If you're taking a clear liquor, transfer it to a water bottle and stash it in your carry-on. You'll probably have to do that between the airport and the cruise terminal. I also have a "fool-proof" way to smuggle,, which is very popular with members of Cruise-Addicts. Try this ... Go by your local speakeasy (I mean liquor store). Don't waste your money on some big, 'ol bottles of booze. Instead, opt for a nice selection of the individual serving bottles. You know the kind ... Yeah, the airline bottles. Be sure to buy the plastic ones and check that they have plastic caps. The why of this will be explained later. Get enough for however many drinks you're going to need for each day of your cruise. Play around with the planning. Be creative. This way, you have a choice of drinks throughout your cruise, instead of the same ol' thing every morning, day and night. *sigh* Boring!

Pack the little bottles in your suitcase. Because they're small, you can find all kinds of hiding places. This allows you to bring even more booze on your cruise. When looking for those nooks and crannies, don't overlook the hidden space inside your shoes. No, not the ones you're wearing, the ones you pack! Another advantage of using the small bottles is that, if one breaks, you'll only ruin one or two outfits, as opposed to your entire wardrobe.

When you get to the port, visit the restroom. Grab a handicap stall, as you'll need a little room for this step. Besides, you're going to need it much more than they will! Remove the tiny bottles and, using dental floss, tie them together, in a chain. Don't use an extra belt, because of the metal buckle, instead, grab that roll of duct tape I always recommend cruisers take. Wrap the tape around your waist, tie your bottle chains to it and let them hang down, inside your trouser legs. Here's why you buy plastic bottles ... 1) glass bottles can be COLD and that makes you walk funny, and 2) plastic bottles don't clink together and give you away!

Now, go on through the screening process. Act as normal as possible. Since the bottles have plastic caps, you won't have to worry about the metal detector. See? Another advantage of plastic!

One final advantage of the little bottles is that you can sneak them into the dining room and avoid any corkage fees! Just 'palm' the bottle and pretend that you are coughing while you chug away.

I guarantee, no one will know!

Connie...there are water glasses in the cabins...if you want wine glasses you will have to request them....I know you will :grin !

Does Celebrity have a supply of wine glasses available in your cabin when you arrive?? I admit that would be a nice feature and not too onerous a one to accommodate....going to put that suggestion on my next Princess questionnaire.

Thank you Princesses....

Yes, Celeb has 4 champagne, 4 high ball and 4 tall water glasses in the room, along with serving plates, etc. Since I'm alone, I ask the steward to get rid of all but 4 of the glasses (only so much tabletop room)...and since you told me my fridge would be empty, AND since you got me thinking about having a drink while dressing, I just ordered a couple six packs of soda, a couple bottles of Korbel and an internet package. Save some time.

After all, I need all the time I can get to video the Swinging Singles in action...AFTER I've had several glasses or Korbel.
