Taking down the Christmas Decorations

DH is working all weekend, 10 hour shifts, and is supposed to have NYD off. I don't want to spend it taking down Christmas decorations so I am undecorating today. My mother used to wait until the 6th of January to take all the decorations down. DH will get the outside decorations later as we will still light them up thru New Years.

Anyone else taking things down early or am I the only one.

I can't WAIT to take decorations down. I think New Years Eve and Day will be the target for me. I've also discovered that I have a lot of ornaments I don't use or have never used, so those will be given away.

Maybe I'll start New Year's Day. I won't have many days off after New Year's and it will be hard to find the time.

Oh my goodness! I can't believe how many people take down their decorations right after Christmas! To me Christmas is a season and not just one day!! Once all the hoop la of getting ready for Christmas Day is over is when I sit back and really enjoy looking at the Christmas "finery". I love my Christmas decorations and ornaments and I always feel a little sad when it is time to put them away again. It's a bit like seeing family leave after the holidays. I was so excited when the company was coming and now I'm a wee bit sad that it's all over. Mine will be up until at least the 6h of January. (I leave my Dickens carollers up even longer! They are so special.)

Usually New Year's Day because it makes me sad to put it all away. You know we work so hard and get so excited about being with family and baking and shopping and making things just right and can't really enjoy looking at the tree enough. And then boom Christmas comes and is gone and all that is left sometimes is the memories and a little of the blues.

But, my house is little and this big tree obstructs the TV from part of the couch. So I'm thinking of enjoying it a few more days and taking it down on New Year's Day.

We usually take everything down NYD. I'm ready by then. We have family that come in from out of state for Thanksgiving, therefore we put out all our decorations.

My book ended up being a better idea than taking the tree down! So another day. And when it comes down, it is one day closer to spring.

We usually take ours down the weekend after New Year's - but since Jim was gone this year and I had free time - all mine came down yesterday! Just didn't want them up anymore. Figured Jim and I could use the time next weekend to do something fun together.

Paw took the tree down and most of great room decortions a couple of days ago. I got most of the linens and cloth things put away in cabinet I told Vickie the bath girl she would have to come help with them next year whether Paw is patient or not. Our problem is not getting them down but back into all the little hidey holes. I really do not like the empty look of things when they are all down.

We take the tree (once live but alas now dead) down by New Year's Day since I am superstitious and don't think it should go into the New Year. I leave the decorations out longer though because I just love all of them so much and hate packing them away.

This year Marty and Elizabeth get to take the tree down - I hope they pack away the ornaments nicely!

Table decorations are already packed away. Tree and the other decorations come down on January 7th. With luck, I'll get the outside lighs down by Halloween!

We also keep the Christmas tree up through January 6th. We enjoy it all that time. We set up the tree on Dec 15th (a little later than usual, which is Dec. 1st). When we had a live tree, it went up a few days before Christmas so it could stay through January 6th.

Actually we don't take down our tree. Once all decorations are off, it becomes a Valentine's tree, decorated in pink and white fluff and lace, with a large red heart at the top. It is really pretty and we love it as our V. tree, but some people still think we have our Christmas tree up till Feb. 18th!

From what I've just read, this would drive most of you bananas, as we have a small (15x20) living room. Sorry.
