Stateroom on Lido Deck

Hi all,
We are booked on the Glory in Sept. We have a balcony room on the Lido Deck. Do you think we are too high to avoid being seasick? This is like the 9th Deck. Anyone been that high? Have any problems sleeping? We have until July 17 to make any changes so would appreciate any help you good folks could provide.

Thanks

We were actually on the Panorama deck on the Glory last November (one deck above the Lido deck) and absolutely loved it. We had no problems with seasickness or movement on the ship. What is so wonderful about the Lido deck is you are central to all the good stuff...buffet, pools, outdoor entertainment. It's the best deck on the Glory IMHO.

IMHO the Lido deck is the place to be! The last 2 years, we've gotten upgraded to a balcony on the Lido deck and it was great! Easy in and out to the pools and food ;) We booked a balcony 8b on the Conquest for Dec. and I hope to get upgraded to the Lido again. If not, we'll be ok with it, but the Lido deck is great! You'll love it.

Thanks for the info
Smashrox your time is almost here. I can't wait until Sept. woohoo
JoAnn I understand the Conquest is just like the Glory. I guess we should have paid for a lower room and hoped for an upgrade, but the first cruise I thought it would be better to know where we will be.

I read one review that said the Glory was not for people over 50. I hope they are not right.

I tend to get seasick.... and this thing about the deck you are on is a bit overworked. The amount of (different) movement from deck 5 to deck 9 is minimal. If the ship is moving, it is ALL gonna move. Sure there is a slight difference from front to back and top to bottom, but how much?

Dottie,

My grandma is 75 and she had a blast on the Glory. So don't you dare believe the Glory is "not for people over 50!"

We were just on the Glory in June. Last two night the ship was rocking hard, we were going pretty fast, 22.4 knots, so the stablizers must have been off. A lot of passengers got very sick, but we have always worn the patches and were fine, highly recommend them!!! . It was such a wonderful cruise for us, we are on the Triumph in November!!!

My first cruise I also picked a cabin, and it was on the Riviera deck and we got the upgrade to the lido. It was pure luck. Last 2 years I also got lucky. But you just never know. We do book very early so that might help with the upgrade fairy! You can't go wrong with picking a cabin on the Lido. No matter what, you'll have a wonderful Cruise :)

Thanks for all the great answers. I have another question. Does it get really windy on the Lido deck or balconies.

This board has the greatest help for us newbies. I hope I will be able to help newbies when my cruise is over. I am getting very excited, and at my age that is unusual HAHA

Thanks again

dumbo,

I'm not sure how windy the balconies get, but the Lido deck itself isn't. It's the Panorama and Sports decks that catch the super high winds (and I mean, hold on to your hat kind of wind). The Lido deck may also be a bit more breezy if the ship is travelling at almost full speed.

I was on the lido deck of the conquest recently and loved it. The only problem was going down and to the back of the boat for the restuarant and slow elevators. I would book the lido deck again in a heartbeat. In fact, hope I get upgraed to it next year. Truly it is central to where the all day and night fun is.

As for wind, there is some wind, but the deck is sourrounded by plexiglass or windows. The breeze that you might feel will be a welcome with the sun beating down.

Now if a person wanted to feel the wind, he or she might want to go to the front of the ship or maybe on the sundeck. But even that is no danger or anything bad.

You will really like the lido deck. I haven't heard any one complain about it yet, except for one person about something minor. And Oh, there is really no difference between the motion on the lido deck and anywhere else. The only wierd movement was when four of us were at the aft pool on the lido deck. Seemed like the aft had a little more movement or vibration. (but then some people like that movement AND THE LARGER BALCONIES ON THE AFT LIDO).

There are things to do for people of all ages. There were plenty of people 50+ on the Glory this week, we just got back. The people I talked to all were having a good time.
