Hi fellow cruiser!! My husband and I will be on the Carnival Spirit when you are. It is our seventh cruise with Carnival, but our first time on the Spirit. We are really excited about it. Eight days of pure fun and warm weather. We live in the northern part of the country and it has been c-o-l-d! We are ready for drinks by the pool, time in the casino, and plenty of great food. Hope to see you onboard.

Hey there, we have a party of five of us going all from Tampa in three cabins. Can't wait. Catch you all onboard in one of the bars.

Cruiselover & Waynebrian,

Thanks for the notes, good to hear your on board for the trip. This is our first cruise and looking forward to it. My wife and I will be celebrating our 25th anniversary that week so will be partying hard. We are from Calgary and man has it been cold here this past few weeks (around minus 30 daily, today is a baumy minus 22)

Let the Rum,Sun & good times roll.

I was wondering if anyone is concerned about the passport situation for Barbados? Since you are from Calgary, Sinbad, I'm sure you are all set and have your passport. Those of us from the United States haven't needed passports to go to the Caribbean as yet. I contacted Carnival today and was told that the cruise lines are working with the Barbados government trying to stall the March 1, 2004 date for requiring passports to disembark. I hope everything works out! I guess I may be staying onboard the ship when it docks in Barbados if things don't go well. There is also the possibility the ship will choose another port to avoid problems.

I sure am anxious for the cruise!! Carnival is lots of fun and each time I've cruised, its been better than the former cruise. Now if only I could win in the casino!

See you on the Carnival Spirit on March 6th.

Cruiselover. You are correct, we have passports. The only concern (as a Canadian) we have is that they normally take our passports upon embarkation, only returning at debarkation, not sure how this will work when we arrive at Barbados. Hopefully they get this cleared up for you guys. I would hate for us Canadians to have to drink up all that Rum Punch on the Jolly Roger when in Barbados! Ha Ha Ha, we could probably do that though!

Good to hear your trips have been progressively better, hope the trend continues. We are looking forward to this as well and plan to bring our best attitudes (no work, no snow, lots of R&R and socializing) Hope to meet you on board.

33 days to go
John

Dear Sinbad:

I was glad to see that you are thinking about the Jolly Roger excursion in Barbados! I saw that excursion at carnival.com months ago and told my husband about it. We both think it sounds like lots of fun. We have been on the Wild Thing in St. Thomas (a very large tri-hull boat with 4000 horsepower) that is a rum punch outing and on the San San in Jamaica (a gorgeous yacht) that is yet another party cruise. Both excursions were fantastic!!! I am hoping to give the Jolly Roger a run for its money too, assuming we are able to disembark in Barbados. I love boat excursions so much and we are not young cruisers! We have been married for 30 years and still enjoy a good time.

We are certainly counting down the days til departure. As I said before, each trip gets better and better. We are not cruisers who complain, we just expect to have a great time, and so far Carnival has not disappointed us!

See you soon.

Cruiselover ...... excellent! Party On!
We're not young either but can still give the Gen X's a run for their money. My impression is the Jolly Roger won't beat the Wild Thing in a foot race but after enough punch the imagination will enahace the speed I am sure. Let's marshall the party attitude parade. Not sure I am looking forward to dancing to Calypso music, but once again the rum will make it sound like Rock 'n roll in short order. Now you have to get that passport thing sorted out!

John

Dear Sinbad:

My husband and I filed the paperwork for our passports today. I called my travel agent this morning and she told me that it would be a good idea to get the passports as soon as possible, since nothing has been worked out yet with Barbados and their new policy. We had to expedite them at an additional cost of $60.00 each!! At least we are set now and the documents should be here in less than two weeks. Now you won't be able to drink as much on the Jolly Roger because we will be on board!

I sure can't wait until departure!! We got our travel documents today from Carnival and that just got us more excited about our vacation.

Let's cruise!

Cruiselover ... glad to hear the passports are in the works - good work! We are going to meet up with some people we met from a few other boards for drinks at Champions Sports bar on Sunday the 7th at 3:00 .... are you guys interested in meeting up as well? If so, we can figure out how we'll contact later. We just got new passports ourselves, our current ones expired within 6 months of our return so they were not valid. Not sure where that rule came from but nothing surprises me anymore! In Canada, we pay $80 and they are mailed to us in 10 working days. It's still a friggin hassle getting al the necessary signatures. BUT, makes the world a safer place so they tell us. Have not seen our docs yet but won't panic and hassle the TA until a few weeks before (maybe)! Well since there won't be as much available rum on the Jolly Roger, I will just have to start earlier on the ship!

Talk to ya l8r

Cruiselover ... I forgot, I was going to tell you a joke about passports or maybe it's a true story? anyways .....

An old one armed man was struggling with his luggage as he approached the airport Customs and immigration desk upon arrival in France from Canada.
As the immigration clerk impatiently waited he said to the old man " Monsieur, I will require your passport"
The old man searched and presented his passport to the young immigration officer.
The young officer said "Monsieur, have you never been to France before?"
The old man replied, "Yes, many years ago"
The officer stated " Monsieur, then you must know that you Canadians must have your passport ready when approaching this desk"
The old man not impressed with the lecture stated "Young man, the last time I was here, I never had to show my passport"
The immigration officer indignant with the response stated "Sir, that is impossible, you Canadian must always show your passport in France"
The old man sternly looked into the young mans eyes and said "I remember very clearly you see as that very morning I had both my arms and I can assure you when I arrived on the shore of Normandy beach, there was not a frenchman in sight!"

I think it likely is a true story.

Dear Sinbad:

I think meeting for drinks with everyone in the Champions Sports Bar sounds great for the 7th. I don't believe we have any other committments at that time! We can figure out the details and we will be there with our sail and sign cards ready for use. It will be so nice to meet all the cruise fanatics. The rest of the world doesn't know what they are missing.

The story you wrote about the passport is fantastic! I love it and will share it with friends.

I am just getting so excited about our upcoming cruise. The last two nights I haven't been able to fall asleep right away because I keep thinking ahead to March 6th. The anticipation is more than I can stand.

Thanks again for the invitation for the sports bar. I am looking forward to it.

Dear Sinbad:

I just wanted to let you know that the passports arrived safe and sound today after only six days. Pretty good service. I have completed the Carnival Fun Pass on-line and am now officially ready for March 6th. Did you and your wife get your documents yet? The count-down is getting closer and closer. I actually could be ready to go out the door in about fifteen minutes! My clothes are set out, just have to go in the suitcases.

I wanted to share with you one tip for your luggage tags from the cruise line. They are only made of heavy stock paper. After filling in the information on the tag, I cover it with one of the wallet size double-sided sheets of laminate. I poke a hole through the little grommet and attach the tag with a cable tie on my suitcase. It seems to hold a lot better than the cardboard tag that only has a piece of elastic on it. As a matter of fact, at the airport a few years back the airline employee told me that he thought my tag was a great improvement over the one provided by the cruise line. Hope this helps you out.

Looking forward to meeting you!

Good work Cruiselover (it just occured to me I don't even know your name yet) It is good to hear you have all your paperwork out of the way. We have not recieved our documents but I have our booking number so we are registered through the fun pass. I thought that we provided the sail & sign info there too but that must come later I guess. We have not begun to even think of packing yet, damn work keeps getting in the way. Will have to give some thought. Not sure if I will go the tux path or just bring a few suits. Thanks for the tip on the luggage tags, we will rig something up. We are staying in Florida a few days before the cruise so won't need to tag our luggage for the ship on our flight. We are looking forward to meeting you guys as well.

talk with you later, John & Terri

Cruiselover ... we got our documents today ... just the packing and waiting left to do.

see you soon

Dear John and Terri:

I'm glad your documents arrived! That always makes the trip seem more of a reality. I have looked through mine quite a few times already.

We are going down to Miami the day before the cruise. It's great you have a few days down there to ease into the cruise mood. We love to go to the Hard Rock Cafe in Miami and sit outdoors. You are right on the harbor and can watch all the cabin cruisers and yachts come in. Its incredible! Of course drinking a hurricane adds to the fun.

The cruise is in just three weeks! Let the fun begin.

See you soon.

Hannah and David (now you know our names!)

Hannah and Dave, thanks for the names. I think we are all set to go, picked up some final things on the weekend. 16 days until we leave for Florida. See you on the Sunday, enjoy your people watching and Hard Rock and have a Hurricane for us too!

John & Terri

Dear John and Terri:

So glad to hear from you! I saw correspondance you had on another message board with Judy in Minneapolis. Guess we will have several people to meet on our vacation. The countdown is getting so close now, I can hardly wait!!!!

My husband and I talk about the trip almost continuously. I keep reading the message boards and give him updates on different topics I've seen. These message boards are addictive for sure! I also have been reading my Carnival Capers newspapers from past cruises. I have them from all our cruises and still enjoy reading them. Wait til you see all the daily activities listed in the Capers. I usually read through the list and then end up at the pool anyway!

Well, it will be great to meet you two on the Spirit. See you on board S-O-O-N.

Hannah
