Hi,
Yes, another question. Thanks so much for everyones help so far.
We are booking a cabin with a balcony. Can you sleep with the doors open at night? Are there flying bugs etc out to sea?

Technically, you can..... but the cruise line will discourage it for obvious reasons (if the A/C or heat is running, you get the idea). If you leave the door open, your cabin steward will keep shutting it. We turn our air off this time of year while cruising, and do sleep with the door open. Some will say that lets the heat out, and thats true if you have the heat on, but we didnt. It was wonderful, I had the pull out sofa right next to the balcony door. What I would give to be rocked to sleep at home every night, to the sounds of the ocean.... and no, there are no bugs while you are out to sea.

Yes , you can sleep with the balcony door open, we do it all the time. It is usually very nice to have it open, but some of the time it is very humid out and then we keep it closed. As for the cabin steward closing it, I can see why they would, for one thing there are window washing crew that go by cleaning the windows and they sometimes also wash the pool deck down and sometimes the water sprays over to the balcony, I have come back to our cabin and found the balcony and chairs wet and it wasn't from the steward cleaning. I wouldn't want water in the cabin, so I keep it closed. Also just like we do at home, we lock up when we leave so no one comes in that we don 't want too. We have never had a problem with the crew as far as leaving our balcony door open when we are in the cabin. One thing is when you have the balcony door open and you open your cabin door it becomes a wind tunnel in your cabin :lol so you may want to keep that in mind if you order room service, we found out the hard way once when we opened the cabin door to let our steward in to deliver our room service order :lol enjoy your cruise :thumb and your balcony.

You can sleep with your balcony door open. We did and it was wonderful. I don't think it's a good idea to leave it open when you leave the room. We had issues with wind gusts coming through our room from the balcony and would make the cabin door very difficult to open and close. The door became very heavy and you could easily lose the door and accidentally slam the door closed on yourself. That was the only thing for us - but we cruised during a tropical storm during the last month of hurricane season.

Yes, it would certainly depend on the time of year. We did it in December, was perfect.

It creates a wind tunnel for nearby cabins also. Had to stop the whistling noise inour room by stufing towels at our door--wish everyone would keep them closed. It sounds nice & romantic but can disturb others

I tried it a time or two but the heat and humidity wasn't worth it. Bugs or insects would not be a problem at sea. Give it a shot. You can always close it if you don't like it. Only thing, if you do go to sleep and it's really humid, you may wake up to a nice damp cabin.
