We are going on Carnival Ecstacy Oct 17 2005 just wondering for a 5 day cruise how much money do you have to put per each person's card, or one amount for entire cabin?? We will have 2 different cabins both with our family in them and wasn't sure how that works?

When I sailed on a 7 day Miralce we only placed 400 total on our card and nothing was said.

But remember that each person will have 50 bucks charged to their card the moment you get onbaord.

Were going to pay the $50 gratuity up front next month to carnival, we were told we could pay it then and have it out of the way. I hope thats true. Thanks for all the help, can't wait to set sail!!!!

I apoligize for my ignorance but the sign and sail card is a mandatory temporary charge card? Why can't I just use my own charge card? Is this a way for the cruise line to more easily track at least a certain amount of your onboard purchases? Is its main function to enable everyone (including the kids?) to have a certain amount of charging power during the cruise? Is it intended to remind you that tipping is part of your cruise by pre-charging you a certain amount? What are the benefits to me?

Your sign and sail card is the only way you an made purchases on ship. You must guarantee any purchases made on ship with a cash deposit or credit card. I always use a credit card like most cruisers. During disembarking you hear them calling names and cabins numbers, that's because someone needs to settle their bill. They won't let anyone off the ship until the cruisers who made cash deposits and went over have paid up.

Benifits to sign and sail card-- to use a credit card== a phone call gets made to activate the charge. Cant make phones calls at sea. You make charges to your sign and sail account and its all charged out at the last day.

I don't mind them adding the tip. That is less cash I'll need. If you don't want the tip add then have them to take it off (and they will). I have seem some people still hand the tips to the people the last night of the cruise. If I want a person to have more money then I hand it to them myself. That way I know for sure that the person got the extra money. I use my credit card on the ship. Then went I get back home I send the money stright to the credit card.

We always put up a cash depoist on our s and s cards. that way when we get off the ship our cruise is already paid for. We will usually put up more than we spend and get a check back at the end of our cruise as a refund. That check is than depoisted in our bank and is the depoist for our next cruise. We prefer the cash method, no suprises, no bills, just the nice memories.
