That's one thing I've noticed about Princess cruises.  No one seems to care what anyone else is wearing.  It's not like that on other cruise lines.  For daytime, shorts are perfect.  Even at night time in the Horizon Court, you might be able to get away with shorts.  It's your vacation - wear what you're comfortable in!
