Is it my understanding that cruise ships use salt water in the pools? That they pump out the water every night and refill it with salt water each day ?
This is true on many cruise lines; however, Holland America and Princess fill their pools with fresh water. For this reason, I only use the pools on these lines. There may be others, but I have only sailed on NCL, Carnival, RCCI, HAL, and Princess.
I don't find the salt water to be that unpleasant. To me it isn't any worse than the highly chlorinated water in Princess' "fresh water pools". With that many people in and out of them, how fresh are they anyway? I know this is a big issue with a lot of cruisers and I just wanted to give my view on it.
saltwater is good for your skin anyways. Yes , ccl fills their ships with the water from the ocean and I find that to be pretty cool. Yes the water is cold sometimes and you may itch a little when you exit the pool. But how often do you jump in salt water ? what , once or twice a year at most?
Actually, the pool water is the same water that people swim in at the carribean beaches, same as when they swim with the stingrays, or even when they go scuba diving, except for the filtering. AND YES, THE POOL WATER CAN BE COLD TO COOL, but enjoyable.
I see nothing wrong with the salt water pools, in fact as mentioned above it is good for your skin, it is a very good exfoliant :thumb the water is clear and clean and you can float better as well :lol just don't open your eyes under water.........
What happens with me with the salt water pools is for one, what Laurie mentioned about the eyes, and my lips begin to burn after a period of time, after about 15 mins or so. to each his own I suppose. Also Laurie, the floating part is fun!! It doesn't take much effort to float. :thumb
Having grown up in Florida, I have always loved the salt water. I could never move anywhere that wasn't 5 or 10 minutes from the beach...no way. We have a pool also, but there is nothing like swimming in the Gulf on a clear day Salt water is good (as said above) for many things, too. Don't be afraid to try it.
