My fault Corky,
Things have been a bit crazy around here since the last group cruise, I forgot to put this up for everyone.

now to work on a temporary something for the Westerdam cruise. :lol

Hey, no problem, I saw your building project...I'm surprised you two have fingers left to type with, work like that is hard !! :)

yes it was hard work. and true to form.. Einstein laid those bricks so close.. we had a bag of cement or mortar or something like that.. to sweep into the cracks.
I looked today, and there are no cracks :grin
I did take a few photos of those Azaleas today, as they are so close together, it looks almost solid.

Each year I trim them back to the window height as soon as the blooms are spent.
So each year it is getting much more compact.
If you want to see them as they were today, I posted the photos in the gallery for Maw to see.

Red - your azalea's are absolutely gorgeous. And they are thick, you are doing a wonderful job on them. I just planted my first one last year, so it is a baby still. It hasn't bloomed yet this year so I can't even tell you the color of it because I don't remember. :) It is so little and scrawny that I can't imagine it could ever grow into anything like your! Beautiful!!!

Corky, I would not prune it this year if this is it's first season, I would just fertilize it according to directions. Next year, I would start trimming it.
But ONLY after the blossoms are done. And then do it right then so that you are doing it before it sets it's buds for the next blooming season. so do not wait on that, or you might ruin the amount of buds it will produce.

Ours were a bit on a straggly side when I came here, although as they had been in for years. Trimming them to the height you want will make them more compact. Now if you are growing them free-form under a tree, you only need to cut them to whatever height you like. But ours are up against the whole back of the house. So they get cut not only to a specific height, but also the faces (front side) is trimmed, to keep it lined up with the edging.

Thnx Red - I was going to start hacking away...you've saved my one and only azalea! I am going to keep it in bush form...not tree form. :)

You are welcome Corky, as this is the first season, and if it is a bit straggly, just give it some love and care, and let it get established.
