Hey Kweenie! My wife and I are booked on the Conquest on 8/22. We can't wait. Where are you guys from? We're from Southaven, MS. Maybe we can meet in NOLA for a hurricane or a mint julip or a bloody mary or just beignets and cafe ole before boarding, huh?

Hey imirish!!! I guess you can see that I've been desperately trying to find some other cruisers by all of my numerous postings! I think my group of "now 54" and you and "the little woman" are the only ones cruising! But that's okay...we can still have fun! We have everyone coming from all over ... Philadelphia, Texas, Illinois, Michigan, Massachusetts, and California! Our ages range from 30-60! We should definitely "hook up" in New Orleans. I've heard about the beignets from surfing the cruise boards! Sounds great! It will be my first time there! As of today, we have 114 more days until we set sail!

We are driving to NOLA on the 22nd. We should be in town just in time for lunch. We can work out the logistics of meeting up a little later. Speaking of logistics, looks like you've got folks spread out all over the place. Are you all family? Is everyone flying into NOLA? My wife, Lori, and I sailed the Holiday out of NOLA a couple of years ago. We had a great time, despite the weather. We're really looking forward to the Conquest. We have friends who have sailed the Conquest and they had a great time. Lori and I are in our early 40s. She will have a birthday aboard ship on the 24th. Looking forward to meeting you and your folks in NOLA on the 22nd.

Mike

Hey Mike, It started out with just my sister and our husbands, then word of a "caribbean cruise" spread like wildfire and the number started to increase. The majority of us are family and a lot of friends. My husband (Steve) and I are also in our early 40's. This will be our first 7-day cruise. We're ALL flying in on the 20th to hang out in New Orleans for a couple of days. What month did you sail on the Holiday? I hope the weather will be great! We will definitely work out logistics as the date draws nearer! I can't think of a better place to celebrate a birthday! That's really nice.
Stephanie

Stephanie, we sailed the Holiday in September. Both at sea days were lousy but we got through them somehow (The karaoke bar helped quite a bit. Hell, all the bars helped us make it through those at sea days!!!) The in port days were great. Besides the Holiday, we have both only sailed one other time. It was a seven day on the Carnivale (it would probably pass for one of the Conquest's lifeboats now) way back in 1980 when we were seniors in high school. I think that's great how word of a cruise brought people out from everywhere. I had met some folks on the cruise critic message board before we sailed on the Holiday and we hooked up in NOLA the day before we sailed. They were really great people but they were "experienced" cruisers and complained the entire trip about the food, the casino. the pool........ You name it, they had a complaint about it. The way I look at it, be glad you're there. I'm gonna have a good time regardless. Carnival would really have to go a long way to make me complain about being on a cruise.

Do you already have your hotel reservations made? When we went before, we stayed at the Chateau Sonesta. It was really nice. It's on Iberville St. about a block from Boubon St. It's not outrageously priced. It costs about what the other boutique hotels in the French Quarter cost..........about $125 a night.

Looking forward to seeing you all in NOLA.

Mike

Hey Mike, hopefully the August weather will bring more sunshine and less rain. I'm planning to go snorkeling and swim with the sting rays in Grand Caymans. My attitude is the same as yours ... "we're on a 7 day cruise, so let's enjoy every minute of it"!! The majority of us are staying at the Hilton Riverside ($79.00/night~$184.54 for 2 nights). Some are staying at the Courtyard Marriott and La Quinta Suites. Most of have reserved an outside balcony room (8A). In reading the cruise board, it sounds like the rooms are huge! It sounds like you and Lori are good people. I'm also looking forward to meeting you both in NOLA. One last question ... so are the beignets as good as everyone is saying? :o)
Stephanie

The beignets cannot be described. When people say they're good that doesn't do them justice. They're beyond good. Orgasmic MIGHT be close. We've been discussing whether to drive down a day early and spend Saturday night taking in the sights, sounds and food. Maybe I'll look into the Hilton Riverside. $79 a night ain't bad considering where that hotel is located. Swimming with the rays sounds and looks like a lot of fun. Every person I've heard talk about that has had only good things to say. I've been trying to find something worth doing in Jamaica. I think horseback riding in the ocean sounds interesting to me but I don't know about having to wear jeans to ride. Too hot. I'm sure I'll come up with something to do and if I don't, who cares? It's a cruise, right? It's vacation, right? Kick back and enjoy.

Lori and have a balcony room booked as well. I know it's a category 8 but I don't know if it's A, B, C......... I figure what does it matter, hmmmmm? It's a cruise!

Y'all sound like great folks, too. We're looking forward to meeting you.

See you in NOLA. Only 108 days left!!!

You are tooooo funny! I'm definitely going to try the beignets. If you decide to "swim with the rays", I hear that Captain Marvin's is great. I haven't made my reservation yet, but I plan to make them versus going through the cruise line. One of my friends is planning to go horseback riding in Jamaica, but me and horses just don't seem to get along! If you hear someone screaming "HELP" while a horse is running wild on the beach, that would probably be me!!! I have to think about that one! I agree with the room ... as long as I have a balcony, I'll be okay. My husband and I are just looking forward to fun and relaxing times! I'm counting down the days too! If you hear any good deals, things to do, excursions, etc. Let me know. See ya when we see ya!

=bigwave

I would definitely NOT book any excursions through the cruise line. I've been told they're much more expensive than just doing it yourself. I'll check on Captain Marvin's. I haven't ridden a horse in a while so I'm second guessing myself about riding in the ocean. I mean riding in the surf sounds romantic and everything, like in a movie or something, but I don't know..................................

It really didn't matter to me if we had a balcony room or not. How much time do you actually spend in the room anyway? I guess I could sit out there and sip bourbon while waiting on Lori to get ready for dinner or something. That might be fun but other than that it really doesn't matter. When we went on our cruise as high school seniors the guys I roomed with and I spent every night curled up on a deck chair under the stars. We didn't even sleep in our cabins. We showered and changed clothes in there and that was it.

Anyway.......................107 days left. See y'all in NOLA.

I've already started! Gotta shed the pounds so I can eat them all back on the cruise! Starting with the beignets in New Orleans!

91 days and 18 more pounds to go! (Hopefully the pounds will decrease with the days!)

89 days to go. Too many pounds to count at the moment. We reserved a hotel room at the Ambassador for 8/21. It's on Tchoupitoulas St. right off Poydras. It'll be real handy getting to the cruise terminal. Did you tell me some of y'all were staying at the Hilton Riverside? That's not too far from where we'll be. I still haven't checked Captain Marvin's yet but I think we'd like to swim with the rays. I'm still trying to come up with something to do while in Jamaica. The only thing that comes to mind is sitting somewhere eating jerk chicken and drinking Red Stripe. Oh well, I'm sure we'll be able to find something to do. And if we can't, who cares? IT'S A CRUISE!!! Right?

Later.

86 days and counting! Mike... you have to count the pounds so you can know how many to gain back on the cruise!!!!

The majority of us are at Hilton Riverside. Yep...I think the Ambassador is real close to the Hilton. I haven't made my reservations with Captain Marvin's yet, but I'm defnitely going to do it. EVERYONE says that it's something that you have to try. I think I'll be doing more shopping than anything in Jamaica. But if you hear of any fun things to try (besides Dunn River Falls and horseback riding), then let me know.

And if all else fails ... jerk chicken sounds like a good alternative! (Have no idea what Red Stripe is ...) Talk to ya soon!

Tell Lori that it's time to start "clothes shopping"!!!
