Thanks from this side of the border too Kathie. It’s not supposed to be as warm or wet as they had forecast. I’m hoping to get the back grass cut this morning. Lu-Ann and the “girl gang” are off for their Friday coffee and gab. So, you’re likely - or not - wondering about “As the Basement Turns”. Well, turn it did. After a good day a week ago Thursday Doug and I got a panic call from Gail. Jim had started to fill the pool and he headed out to Windsor. He who refuses to carry a cell phone. As does Dave. Anyway, Gail had gone downstairs and there was water all over the floor. I had showed them the obscure spot where the outside shutoffs are when they moved it. She remembered, shut off the water and called us. When Doug and I arrived there was indeed water on and under the floor. The base board was swelling. We sucked up what we could with my shop vac and did our best to try to figure out what had happened! Had we nicked a waterline during construction? Even if we had and the water was turned off we would have noticed water as the line drained. We looked at each other and said “it’s up to the insurance now”. The insurance sent a restoration company with fans to dry things up and assess the damage. Of course, Jim and Gail HAD to go to Cleveland over the weekend to see their grand daughter’s dance recital. So, after investigating it turns out the fitting where the plastic water pipe running through the house is attached to the copper pipe going through the wall to the outside tap had failed or was never right in the first place. Thankfully it had nothing to do with the work we had done. Until the restoration company removes and replaces the effected insulation, drywall and floor we’ve been “laid off”. Had it not been for Gail going downstairs and her quick action it sure could have been a lot worse. Stay tuned for more episodes of “As the Basement Turns”.Now, you fine folks all have a fantastic Friday. The thirteen.
